Meant to say gutted that Minas studios are not listed in First Choice 2007 brochure, dont know why????
We stayed in Minas studios for a week Aug 29th - Sept 5th 2006 and were very happy with our accomodation. We had room 2 which had a beautiful sea view (see pic) and over looked the garden with palm & olive trees. Rooms were immaculatly clean and tidy and very spacious for studio apartments. Cleaners were polite and would wait for you to go out before coming in to clean. Fab pool at the Marianna, 2 mins away and Antonio beach a 7 min walk, absoloutly gorgeous! You can hire a fan for 1 euro a day from Lassi supermarket (Hi Stan) - opposite Marianna, and get all your bits and pieces there...fresh bread, bottled water, papers etc. Our favourite tavernas were Mystic Gusto and Zorbas, both of whom do good Greek nights, Zorbas esp! If your looking for a quiet beach holiday and be spoilt for choice of where to eat then Lassi is the place! Its more for families and older couples who really want to chill.....youngsters beware....no nightclubs, takeaways etc.....thank god!!! Definatly take a trip to Argostoli the capital, a 20 min walk away - we ate at La Gondola which was lovely but more pricey than eateries in Lassi. Overall Lassi is not typically Greek to look at, just a resort of hotels and apartments but locals are friendly and beaches are fab, too many to chose from! Gutted that they are not listed in First Choice 2007 brochure!Loved it so much, going back in 2007.....to live!
We went to Minas studios last October and it was only when I got back and found this site (while looking for this years hol !) that I thought I would respond. We had ... Room 11 !!!! ... I can see what people are saying - it was a bit dark and backed onto cleaners room ... but I enjoyed the privacy and the view of the orange tree .. we had great company in the people staying in number 10 .. in fact were are meeting them in Greece again this year ! When you go self-catering you can expect the minimum and I thnk we got more than that. Lets face facts - when you go self catering you don't spend a lot of time in the place- it suited us fine. October is the end of season but loads of places are still open and it's nice that everywhere isn't packed. The noise from the bar next door (in October) is minimal and it's a great place to stay ... I always try a different island but if I went back to Kef (which I hope to do) I would stay there again.
The appartments were large and bright, cleaning was 1st class cleaned every other day with clean sheets once a week. Although I asked for an upper floor when I booked (afraid of getting 10 or 11) we were given No 6 which although was on the lower ground was fine had a large patio at the back which looked out over a little garden, and being on the lower level it was cooler. Although the appartments have no air conditioning you can hire a fan fron Stans supermarket for 1 euro per day, come out of the appartments and turn right it is the first supermarket you come to at the top of the beach road. Stan can cater for all of your needs and is very helpful. The beaches are beautiful but not as good as some on the Greek islands. Lassi its self was a bit of a let down not much to do. Best food at Mystic Gusto and Nefeli. Best bar Veronica one of only three in the strip So simple bar very nice but very expensive, owner a bit odd I think he may be high on somethin more than life. Over all a nice holiday but dont think we will be going back to Lassi.
Have stayed here twice (2003 & 2004) in May/June and could not fault the accommodation either time. Clean, adequately equipped, great views over to Lixouri and delicious scents from Mystic Gusto next door. We did not notice any road noise at all, only the cockerels, but we were none too keen on the earth tremors last year!
How to book Minas Studios
My partner and i have just stayed at the Minas Studios during the last week of May 2004 and the 1st week of June. Although when we arrived at the apartment our first thought was this was smaller than we were used to, it is of a good standard for Greece and the main thing was that it was clean. We were lucky to have stayed on the 1st floor! The views were good, and we loved having the authentic Greek music playing from the restaurant next door-which was a good substitute for not having a TV or a RADIO. The Rep was helpful which was good as there is no reception. The location is ideal, right in the middle of the main road through the resort with good access to the shops, restaurants and the beaches. We had our best holiday ever in Kefallonia, we could not believe how beautiful the beaches and the sea and the landscape was.
Could you please tell me how to book the Minas studios for 2005, Ihave looked in all the brochures but cannot find it anywhere. we will be very dissapointed if we cannot stay there, as we have stayed there 3 times already and have always had a great time.
could anyone tell me if the studios are large enough for three people and if so are these larger rooms in the basement. (terrified of getting room 10 or 11 !!!!). also, do the studios have a safety deposit box ?
Having stayed at the Minas several years ago we booked to go again in 2001 and were bitterly disappointed with our apartment. Whatever happened to no.10? All the adverse comments seem to be about no.11 but we stayed in the one next door which was dark and dingy with damp and broken glass in the front door. We didn't mind not having the views but like no.11 we couldn't leave the window open and the front door didn't seem secure or safe. Has anyone else experienced no.10?
I stayed in the dreaded room 11....ok, yes there was a moth-ball smell, I suspect it came from the old wooden wardrobe. Ventilation did open into the cleaners store room. But I have to say, what do you expect from a self-catering room ? Surely, if it is clean as this room was, it is somewhere to put your head down on a night. If your expectations are more, then may I suggest you stay in a hotel rather than self-accom.
The veranda did not have a view of the lagoon as do the first floor ones but so what ! :-) I had an orange tree and the small garden, it was a quiet, pleasant place to sit and enjoy a drink...Of course you could always sit in the "Bandstand" gazebo, although it would benifit from a light when it becomes too dark. the minas is well placed for both shops and tavernas. Our rep Mary Leonard was superb, she was so friendly and helpful, well she is a yorkshire lass !! If you want a good base to stay whilst exploring this wonderful island then try the Minas
my self and my husband have just returned from kefalonia 23 9 2003 the minas studios were clean and tidy could not fault them but out side the building my husband is totally blind but the streets are to be desired there were parts of the lamp posts were sticking up generally the place was pretty good supermarkets were good all round plus the rep that we had was excellent nothing was to much trouble for her the rep being mary leornard we had a meeting when we got there she was marvellous at her job explaing things about the island and very helpful at the end of our holiday helping with my husband when we left there to go home trips aroud the island very good plus we had a beach barbecue on the island which i thought was very enjoyable
We stayed at the Minas Studios for 2 weeks and were very lucky to get apartment number 4. Numbers 1 to 4 are on the top floor and I would agree with earlier comments that the views really are spectacular from them. Can sympathise with the chap who stayed in number 11 - we thanked our lucky stars we weren't put there as it really is a bit tucked away.
Couldn't fault the apartments at all - very spacious and clean with basic kitchen equipment, but everything you needed (except a corkscrew!).
Can't understand anyone needing ear plugs due to the road noise - what road noise? Also, music from Olive Press restaurant next door wasn't imposing in any way - in fact it was quite pleasant to listen to whilst getting ready, and generally finished by the time we went to bed anyway. Slightly louder on Greek night, but again it finished at a sensible time - maybe the people who were bothered by it spent there evenings in?
The location is spot on - turn left for the bars/restaurants and turn right for the best beach.
Would definitely go back and would book early again for the best chance of a top floor studio.
I would like to point out these are purely my thoughts on the particular room that we stayed in the Minas Studios! The rest of the apartments looked fine? I think we were unlucky...
Our room was a double, number 11. One of two doubles in the complex (thats what our rep told us!) It was situated kind of basement/downstairs/lower ground level, with a nice view out of the window of a wall and some stairs coming down from the upper ground level. The bathroom window opened up into the cleaner’s cupboard, which smelt of chemicals (we later found out this was caused by moth balls!!), so no air could circulate (yep it was slightly hot in the room!) or condensation could escape from the bathroom/shower. Which is probably why there was damp on the walls! We did hire a fan, after two days of trying! But it didn’t really make that much difference. No mesh on the main window, only shutters, so this had to stay closed at night and whenever we we're out of the apartment (quite a lot surprisingly!) There was mesh on the door window, but you had to be careful when the window was fully open because if someone walked past, they'd see you in bed!
Oh well...
STAYED AT MINAS STUDIOS IN JUNE 2002, THOUGHT THEY WERE GREAT, A BETTER STANDARD THAN MOST OF THE APARTMENTS IN GREECE AND BIG TOO. GOING BACK TO SAME APARTMENT IN JUNE 2003, THE VIEWS FROM THE UPSTAIRS APRTMENTS ARE AMAZING.
Holidays at the Minas Studios all year round and the prices.
A lovely supprise - better than i expected. Enjoyed the Olive Press music in the everning. The ducks were a bit noisy but they were good to talk to after a few to drink! Wish i was still there!
I was pleasantly surprised to find an apartment with a shower curtain - Greek Islands must have progressed since I was last there! Nice apartments, try to get an upstairs one with a view of the bay - the sunsets are spectacular. it is close to the main road though, but we had earplugs and this was not a problem. Olive Press taverna next door has loud music, but not every night and generally not after midnight. For us this was fine, as when we would get back it was quiet. Would recommend.
We have had 2 stays at the studios>the upstairs numbers have the best views across to Lixouri especially at night.Cleanliness cannot be faulted and would not hesitate to recommend.Olive press noise acceptable and did not create problems for us
Good location on main Lassi Road, close to supermarket with easy access to beach. Situated next door to Olive Press restaurant. I thought it was fine but some people complained about the noise from the live music. Apartments standard basic supplies, but quite spacious.
