We have just come back from Kefalonia yesterday. We only booked the flght which we always do and stayed at white rocks on our first night. It was very pricey but we got a room with a view of the sea. The beach was lovely and the hotels decor was beautiful. The buffet breakfast was the best I have come across. We will probably go back to kefalonia but for 140 euros a night at the white rocks we might stay somewhere else!
Have just returned from the White Rocks Hotel in Kefalonia, where the weather, location of hotel and MOST staff were great. Definitely recommend hiring a car to explore the beautiful island. Only grievance was the nepotism towards the al fresco dining! It seems that the only way to get the head waiter to allow you to eat on the balcony of the hotel is to holiday at White Rocks for 10 consecutive years first. It was plainly obvious that the 'regulars' were all seated outside to watch the sunsets every night.Upon asking to do the same, we were told that we'd have to sit in a four with strangers, though, this too seemed to be a rule applied inconsistently! Still, we managed to have a great time despite this. Will return to the island one day.
We stayed at the White Rocks Hotel, Lassi, last September. Everything about the holiday was fabulous, the sceanery the people the food and the hotel was first class, wonderfull food, private beach and views to die for. We shall definatly return.
we are going to the white rocks hotel in july. I booked a sea view as this is an important part of our holiday. Now that I have read some of the comments from people who had also booked a sea view and ended up with a tree view instead has given me cause for concern. We did request a high floor so that we could avoid the treeline. I hope the hotel will take this into consideration. I am nevertheless pleased with the comments that I have read from past holiday makers.
We have stayed in the White Rocks 3 times now, which much show that we like it. The last time was July 02. The location of the hotel could be a problem to older people because of the many steps and the steep slope down to the beech and sloing walk to the pool, however, it does warn you of this in the brochure. The staff are very friendly and the hotel is lovely and clean. The pool area is beautiful and very peaceful. The biggest down point in my opinion is the rooms on the "road side" of the hotel. We have stayed in one twice and frankly they are very noisy (from the road and air con systems) and are rather dark. It is worth paying the extra for a sea view room as these really are lovely and the view is well worth it. I have never stayed in the bunglaows, but would not book one through choice as other people we have met while staying there have generally been unhappy with them and have asked to be moved to the main hotel. Overall I would recommend it, but feel you should be aware of the down sides.
TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR THE WHITE ROCKS IS (26710) 28332 FAX NUMBER (26710) 28755 IF YOU PUT WHITE ROCKS HOTEL IN YOUR SEARCH SECTION IT WILL BRING UP A WEB SITE WITH PRICES AND ALSO DETAILS OF THE HOTEL . HOPE THAT THIS HELPS
I am going to Kefalonia in September 2003 for my best friends wedding. The whole party is staying at White Rocks Hotel but because I am wanting a single room I am not allowed to book and have to wait until the end of january. I am hoping that somebody has a telephone number for White Rocks so I can contact them about helping me. I would be extremley grateful of anybody's help.
Just arrived back last night. (29/09/2002). Visited with my girlfriend and parents for a week. This was my first trip to Kefalonia, or Greece for that matter and would like to say that the local people, not just the ones who are paid to be nice, are some of the most welcoming people I have ever come across, anywhere. When we first arrived at the hotel we were booked into a bungalow and were all very surprised at how small, dark and dingy they were. They are equiped with two small, uncomfortable single beds, noisey air conditioning and a mini-bar with no safe. We had problems with the hot water as they are not fed from the main hotel. We were moved to a double room in the main hotel with, thankfully, a double bed but this was on the "Mountain View" side which was unbelieveably noisy due to the road, and at worst, smelled of traffic fumes. Again, there was little to no natural light. The room, and all the hotel, was immaculately clean and the staff, especially Thassos and Stella, were fantastic. Overall, the hotel, we felt, was poorly laid out. There are countless steps and a lot of the older guests were struggling with them. The pool, (when you find it!) is excellent and we spent most of our time there as the beaches in this part of the island really arent up to much. (Myrtos is the best). I would say its a bit of a gamble really as the good rooms (in hotel facing sea) are great but the others are really not that pleasant, including the bungalows. To sum up, this is a nice, family run hotel in an impressive location, but for anyone who has been used to the standards of British or American hotels may be very disappointed.
THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT TO THE ISLAND , AND WE HAVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH IT. NO LAGER LOUTS , NO PESTERING , IT WAS FAB. THE HOTEL WAS GREAT. CLEAN , FRIENDLY STAFF , RIGHT LOCATION AND THE VIEWS FANTASTIC. ONLY BAD THING WAS THAT WE DID PAY EXTRA FOR SEA VIEW , WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE A TREE VIEW , RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU ARE GOING TO BOOK A BUNGALOW ROOM. NO KIDS AT THE HOTEL , WHICH WAS A BONUS. EVERYONE WAS ROUGHLY OVER THE AGE OF 30, AND MOST WHERE REPEAT CUSTOMERS. IF YOU WANT A GOOD BASE , AND A NICE HOTEL THEN THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. WILL CERTAINLEY BE GOING BACK .
I'm planing a stay at White Rocks from 15th of September.I'm going there with my 10 months old baby and I am little bit concerned about the noise in rooms overlooking the main road /as I read so far /How bad is it ? And,what about other rooms and bungalows ? If they only have this noisy rooms available, should I take it anyway ? The main reason is my little girl. Thanks !!!
The white rocks is a good hotel, however, I stayed in what was a single room which was above the laundry with no views other than the main road to the capital which was five meters above the balcony, I was moved and given a substantial refund. Mountain view rooms are noisy (from main road) Sea view rooms are quieter although the pine tree's do obscure the view. Recommend you stay in the bungalows.
My boy friend and I are planning to go to Kefalonia around the second week of August. We are thinking about just getting plane tickets and then travel around Kefalonia and stay at different hotels/hostels. Is that a bad idea, is it difficult to get accomodation at that time and what does a hotel cost? (*** standard). Any other information on what to see is very welcome as we have never had the pleasure to visit this beautiful island. I have just finished reading "Captain Corelli´s mandolin", so I want to visit some of the places mentioned in the book of course!) Thank you very much for helping out!
Been to White Rocks for the last 3 years and going this june aswell. If you what a holiday where you want sun, a nice hotel, very polite hotel staff and lovely food this is the place. Just taking to a few vistors over the years we have been there and alot been going back for the 5,8 and 12 years.
We went early June 2001 and stayed in the bungalows attached to the hotel. These are near to the pool and also the private beach, although the beach is ideally placed it is quite rocky underfoot. The beach just around the corner is extremely clean and has been awarded the blue flag. The food and service was excellent and if it is a quiet peaceful holiday you want, then there is no need to leave the hotel grounds.
WE WENT JUNE 2000.ROOM HAD VERY GOOD FACILITIES, AIR-CO, ETC, BUT FELT DECOR WAS "TIRED" AND SOME ODD/CHIPPED TILES IN BATHROOM. BUT WAITER SERVICE EVENING MEALS/BUFFET BREAKFASTS WERE EXCELLENT. POOL/BEACH EXCELLENT- VERY PEACEFUL AND BEAUTIFUL LOCATION. COULDN'T GET IN AT RIGHT TIME LAST YEAR, BUT WE'RE GOING BACK MAY 2002!!!!
