Beaches in Kefalonia

I was staying in Skala, but often went to Katelios, as the beach here was much nicer and sandy, rather than pebbled. Lovely blue waters, very shallow, with an excellent snack bar Lots of umbrellas and sunbeds to hire for a few euros. Not too crowded either... Lovely!

My late husband and I had visited Kalelios for 23 years, mainy of the New Taverns ,we went to thier first opening night. When "Bev" died I took his ashes to scatter off the rocks, so he would have the best Memoreal in the world and when my come times I will walk  with him in the lapping water for ever  Lenna

5 years now and have booked for 2009 Katelios is one of our favourites, we can swim in peace enjoy the sun wander along for something to eat or while away the time in the beach bar! Just thinking of it makes me want to go NOW!

IF I COULD CHOOSE TO WHILE MY DAYS AWAY THEN KATELIOS WOULD BE MY CHOICE. IF I NEED TO DREAM OF MY FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE WORLD I SHUT MY EYES AND I AM THERE. SIMPLY THE BEST BEACH IN THE UNIVERSE, QUIET, CLEAN AND ENCHANTED MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE DAY TURNS TO NIGHT OR THOUGH IM SURE IF CAMPING FACILITIES WERE AVAILABLE I WOULD HAVE. A MAGIC BEACH THAT WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART WELL WORTH A VISIT MY FRIENDS.

Lovely quiet beach with some really good swimming and snorkelling, possibly our favourite beach. Great value and quality tavernas. All beaches have a strong afternoon breeze so get there for the morning.

A lovely, quiet and relaxing beach. It was clean and there was always a gentle breeze. Lovely little tavernas right on the beach for lunch. Great if you have kids as the water is very shallow and safe.

Katelios beach is ok, totally different atmosphere to Scala, its very laid back and has sand which gently shelves into the sea.  The best bit is if you take the sea taxi from Scala, you can catch it next to the glass bottom boat and he also goes to Poros.  Only 11 euro for a round trip (Scala-Katelios-Scala), brilliant, my 9 out of 10 is really for the taxi trip!

Great Beach, very quiet, sandy and safe for kids.

We were really disapointed with the beach at katelios - I think that we had been spolied when we stayed at Lourdas before. The beach was dirty looking and the sand had fag buts in it etc. The time when we did go for an early morning dip, the bin man tried to con us to pay for a sun lounger and then stole all our things, which we managed to get back and not to pay for the con either!!! Sat by the pool at our apartments and we were not the only ones. Still the rest of the place is great and we had a fantstic relaxing and quite holiday just what we wanted!

Reply to previous comment -we've been to Kateliops for the past 3 years and are going again this year. THere's not a lot to do, but that's what we like. Quiet, friendly and clean.

Not an amazing beach, but if you walk over the cliffs at the end of the beach (following the blue tags tied to the bushes, so not to get lost), Turtle beach is quite nice.  The water is also so clear and shallow, can walk for ages and it not get past your knees!  We spent 2 days at the beach in Scala, which to get to costs €1 on the bus that sets off at 11.00 from the cigarette kiosk and returns at 5.00.  That is a lovely beach, very shingly and in comparison, walk a metre into the water and it is up to your neck!  There are more watersports etc in Scala.

We didn't stay in Katelios but went there for the day on the recommendation of our hotel rep. We thought it was really nice, the sand wasn't as sandy as the ones on Svoronata, but the crystal clear sea and excellent fish tavernas really made up for it. The sea is so clear you don't even need to go snorkelling you can sea the fish swimming around your feet. Its gentle slope also makes it great for the kids. We went to the Katelios taverna at the very end of the small street where all the fish tavernas are situated, the food was great and very cheap, the staff are lovely too. We would definately come back

The main beach was dirty although they were trying to clear it when we left (6th July 2004) The beach nearby was good being of sand and stones with a few sun beds and very sandy when you get in the water. The main problem with the beaches in the area were the amount of stray dogs and cats that used them for there toilets. Perhaps not the best place to let your kids play in the sand if you value there eyesite

Isn't the sea warm here!!!

the main atracton of this beach is the peaceful , quiet and relaxing location . sunbeds and umbrellas are available for hire from Andrea who is very attentive and will go to great trouble to make sure everything is perfect for you . you cant have too much of a good thing but for refreshments elinkino taverna is right on the beach or you can take your own Andrea wont mind !

If you need al relaxing holiday No pressure No peddalos No selling [as in other places] Just lay down - read a book - listen to your music - or just drift off in your dreams Then this is the place for you PARADISE Just try it - you have to be a special person to understand OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Wonderful - just the sounds you want to hear

Narrow strip of sand with some seaweed, but perfectly adequate for lazy days in the sun. Even at the end of August, it wasn't too crowded. Becomes stonier as you get closer to the rocks at the far end (even more stoney after a few nights of spectacular storms!), where there is some good snorkelling. It served us well for a fortnight.

Weird sand storms, lots of wasps.

There is a good beach of shingle/sand but a 15 minute walk across the headland takes you to the best beach on the island. Around 3 miles long where you can bathe in peace. This beach is also where the loggerhead turtles nest, so treat with respect. The walk can be a bit tough, not for the infirm. You can also try swimming around the headland.

Although there isn't a good beach in Katelios itself there is a good sandy beach about 20 minutes walk along the rocks. This might be a bit tricky though if you have kids and lots of beach stuff to carry.
