I wouldnt take the review from Deanne gatfield too seriously as she is an employee of first choice.
Just got back from a weeks holiday at The Asteris it is a really lovely clean friendly hotel the rooms are really spacious and really well equiped microwave kettle loads of pans cutlery plates even a cheese grater, the sheets and towels have the asteris logo on which looks really nice, there are even towels at the lovely pool for everyone to use, the views from the pool are amazing along the coast to Skala, we had a car so we drove down to Skala at night would'nt have liked to of walked back in that heat, if you dont want to venture far the restaurant at the hotel is fantastic and there is a free bbq on a Saturday night which we really enjoyed. Would recommend to anyone and would definatly stay again.
We went to the Asteris for two weeks in July 06; it was beautiful, and had everything you could want. The staff are so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The pool was excellent, the views were lovely, and the atmosphere was really relaxing. The studio we stayed in was very new and spotlessly clean. Couldn't fault anything. Book in complete confidence, Asteris is a GREAT place to stay. PS The picture is the view from our patio.
This seemed like the best place to stay, although it is outside of Skala we really liked it, we didn't want to be too near everything and on top of the resort. Probably best to hire a small car from the airport for the duration (we will do this next time) to make the most of getting about, unless you like just lazying by the pool! But we went off to beaches and drove around the island. It is very modern, very clean, lovely and cool, lovely views, friendly staff and good facilities. I couldn't believe there was a good hairdryer in the bathroom and the bed was so comfortable both my boyfriend and I miss it! We will definitely return and stay here no doubt about it, we just would book direct and not book with Thomson again!!
I would strongly recommend this hotel to anybody going to Kefalonia. We have returned this week after a week away (with FirstChoice) and were very impressed with everything at the Asteris. Ideal situation (Skala about 2 minute drive away - being out of the way was quite nice and being slightly away from the resort and up a hill provided a noticable temperature difference after the sun had gone down with Skala being almost too warm in the evenings), excellent room (we had Studio Flat - very spacious) and even though I nearly chose somewhere with a shorter transfer time, I'm glad I didn't as it didn't take as long as I thought it would - with the air-conditioned buses from the airport taking you along a nice route, it really felt no hassle.
Asteris. What can I say?. The best place we have ever stayed in in Greece. Our 8th trip to Skala our first to the Asteris. From the minute we arived the hospatality was second to none. The rooms were massive with views right over Skala, as far as the mainland and Zakynthos. Had a car for 2 weeks from the airport which I think is a must unless you like sitting round the pool all day everyday. Nothing bad in that always a spare sunbed and the pool was never crowded.Dont miss BBQ night but make sure you eat very lightly through the day as the food is piled high on your plate. My 6 year old managed it just.Already booked for next year, cant wait
Have just returned from Asteris. We were really impressed. Costas and his team do a great job of making guests feel at home without being over bearing. I would suggest if you are fortunate enough to be visiting the Asteris you make an early visit to Poros , slightly further than Skala but a delightful little port with many fine eating places and a bank with cash machine.
We have just spent two weeks at the Asteris. This was the view from our balcony but you cant see how nice it actually was! It was a lovely peaceful complex with fantastic views. The accomodation was clean and new and the one bedroom apartment was really large. The owners and staff were so friendly and even gave my husband a beautiful birthday cake to help celebrate. It feels like you are at home, except its gorgeous weather and you dont have any housework to do, especially with the daily maid service! Air conditioning, safes, microwaves, extra large satelite TV if you want to get the children out of the sun. Its elevated position above Skala means a car is essential if you want freedom but its worth it for the views from the rooms and the pool. Travel with First Choice Holidays, they are the best tour operator by far. We will definately go back someday as it just had those extra touches that you dont always find in self catering in Greece.
. Staying in Astaris this July. Could anyone direct me from the airport ? I have seen directions on a website somewhere but cannot find it.
Hi, we are also staying in the Asteris this July, we normally stay in skala village. However my parents stayed at the asteris last year and we went to visit them. The hotel is one of the best in Skala with a beautiful pool. Skala village is lovely with a great long beach. The restaurants are all very good (of course there are some that you would not go back too!!). Apostolis at the top of the high street, turn right at the ocean view hotel, is good basic greek food at great price, we try and eat there most nights. The rooms are top quality with TV and air con as standard (no local charges), bar snacks and bar prices very reasonable and a weekly bbq night / greek night. Main problem with Asteris is it is on the main road form skala to poros, the road is not busy (remember it's Kefalonia!) but it would be a long walk or a 5 euro taxi ride to village. We have hired a car for the 2 weeks to accomadate this. Over the last 10 years we have worked our way around most of the restaurants and can list the pros and cons of all. One adventure not to miss is a trip to old skala, Jean (english) works at the asteris and has produced a guiidebook and sometimes does guided tours. Need to get up there early in July though. If you are interested in car hire visit Greekstones website, they are based in skala and are excellent. We arrive on the 19th of July so if you are there then just give us a shout, you can't miss us (2 white women and a black 4 yr old)!!
I have just returned from the Asteris, I was with my mum and stayed there for a week, from the 14th to the 21st October 2004.
This complex is ideal for anyone who likes a quiet life, and wants to get away from it all. The staff are all friendly especially Mary and Jean who are alway there to help out.
It is advisable to either hire a car, or go on some of the excursions on offer. I shall be returning next year with my partner all being well.
The Asteris is a small complex about 2 miles outside Skala. The rooms are very spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean.(Maid service everyday!)The views looking down towards Skala are breathtaking. There is a pool, bar, shop and snack bar on site. Costa, Poppy and Maria are wonderful hosts and make sure your stay is perfect. Mary and Jean who run the bar, shop and snack bar are great fun and very helpful with extensive local knowledge. We highly recommend a stay here. A car is useful but local taxis are good.
Everybody heads for Skala as it is the nearest resort, but for more traditional Greek food and location, head to Poros about 3 - 4 miles from Asteris.
Has anyone been to Asteris apartments, Skala. Wondered how far it is from beach and what you thought about location.
