Like others who have stayed here, we thought that the heat was unbearable at first. Even with a large fan on full blast 24/7 it was`nt enough. However,...we only slept there!. The rest of the day was spent on the beach or touring. The place was clean but very basic. The linen was changed three times while we were there and the toilet bin was emptied every other day. One thing I did`nt like was the combi sink/electric cooker. There were only `two pin` plugs plugs around (no earth) and no RCB`s or RCD`s in sight!!. These things are banned in Britain for obvious reasons. We ate out!!
It was very quiet at Belle Marie and the peace was only spoiled by the `Damned Car` touring round with loudspeakers encouraging the locals to go to church or something. This started about 8.00am and went on for about an hour each morning while we were there.
Theres a small supermarket just 100 yds away and a chemist next door.
Humming Bird Moths appear daily outside the apartments and are a joy to watch. Gecko`s are everywhere. Everyone is friendly.
Remember that these apartments are the cheapest ..but far from the worst!
We stayed here between 14th-28th August 2004.
In agreement with other comments...they are like ovens!!. However, they are very clean. The linen was changed three times while we were there and the toilet bin was emptied every other day. The accommodation was very basic with a small toilet/shower room and open plan kitchen area. A word of warning. We could see no `earthing` on the Combi Sink/Electric Cooker. There were no signs of RCB`s or RCD protectors . These Combi`s are banned in Britain for obvious reasons. Needless to say we ate out all the time.
The apartment overlooked a small lemon and lime garden and the wildlife it attracted was pleasant ....including the beautiful Humming Bird Moth which sips nectar from the flowers (whilst hovering) outside your door....and you will swear it was a real humming bird!!. The area around the apartments was quite pleasant and all the locals are very friendly. Its just a couple of hundred metres to the beach which has a abundance of deckchairs and sunshades for 6 euro`s a day. There are huge colonies of large noisy crickets whose job is to remind you that you are in the Med!! They are quiet at night thank God!. I`ve added a few photo`s for you to see.
Although location, quietness and cleanliness all good, avoid these apartments unless you want to bake in a sauna during your vacation. Even leaving the windows open all night and hiring a fan for the duration made absolutely no difference.
Been back two weeks from the above studios. Very good location, just behind the pharmacy, nice and quiet but just two minutes from the main street. Our studio had plenty of room. A double and a single still plenty of room. Linen changed three times in the two weeks. Bins emptied every day. No views, just overlooked a small three foot high wall, next doors garden the other side, lemon trees overhanging, peaceful.
The Belle Marie is in an excellent location, central, but also very quiet. It is basic Greek accommodation: 2 beds, toilet/shower, and kitchenette. Kept very clean and 3 changes of linen in 2 weeks. A word of warning though - these studios are VERY hot concrete boxes with no ventilation. Fans are a must. The owner rents them, but it's 10 Euros cheaper to get them from George (Art Studios shop next to cbr car rental)in the high street.
