Stayed sept 08,would give hotel about a 7/10,very clean, food nice but limited menu, breakfast not so nice only went once, stayed in room 301,good position overlooking pool, about 45 min walk into town which i quite enjoyed but you can take courtesy bus, staff were polite but not over friendly but might be as it was end of season, one of the woman behind reception very unhelpfull, overall would stay there again but would try elsewhere first.
STAYED IN ROOM 145 FOR TWO WEEKS IN JULY 2008,NOT THE BEST PLACE TO STAY,A BIT TO FAR OUT OF TOWN AND IS BUILT ON THE SIDE OF A REALY STEEP HILL/MOUNTAIN.ROOMS WERE VERY CLEAN AND TIDY BUT THE FURNITURE IS LOOKING A LITTLE TIRED,BEDS WERE COMFY AND THE AIR CON IS FREE,SHAME OUR ROOM WAS ON THE GROUND FLOOR AND THE PEOPLE ABOVE SEEMED TO LIKE DRAGING A CHAIR ACCROSS THE FLOOR AT 1.00 A.M.THIS HOTEL IS VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY

For some unknown reason my comments about the San Giorgio only received an average rating. I can catagoricaly state that the whole complex and everything in it is more than excellent.
Hi John
I don't care what anyone else says, the San Giorgio is the best in Skala if not in Kefalonia. We have just returned from two weeks, which was our third visit in as many years. The whole complex is second to none, right down to the maids who do a fantastic job both on the rooms and around the pool complex, right upto the owners Sonia and daughter Francesca who are on site most days from first thing in the morning and then organising Greek dancing/Karaoke in the bar til late into the night. Just about to book up for next year, so might just see you there.
we went to san giorgio in may 2004 and it was the best holiday i have had, we went walking every day to the town and the people were very friendly even the sheep and goats walking along the rd, the staff were absolutely brilliant one of the maids used to make pictures with my sarong if i left it on the bed. we went into the town in the evening but always ended up back in the bar which was good fun breakfast was good and the whole holiday was excellent value for money
We have just returned from a glorious week at the San Giorgio Hotel, we travel quite alot and this has to be one of the best hotel's we have ever stayed in, the view from our room (no 73) was simply stunning, it was one of the best views we have ever had from a room before, the cleanliness cannot be faulted and the staff are all friendly, our room was cleaned every day and some of the little "extra touches" left by the cleaners would always make us smile when we got back to our room at the end of the day, (if you stay there you will know what I mean!) Yes it is slightly out of the resort centre but they do have a courtesy bus and taxi's are only 5 euros, however if you do decide to walk it will take you about 40 minutes, it is a very pleasant walk along the coastline and you can explore the little hidden coves along the way and stop for lunch on "the boat" which is about the halfway mark :0) We met at least two people who had stayed there before and I know that this certainly won't be our last visit either. I would highly recommend a resturant called "Symposium", the food was delicious and they have a pianist and singer most nights to add to your evenings entertainment! Yes I would recommend the San Giorgio Hotel to anyone :0)
My suggestion is do not organise any car hire through the tour agents as this is an extremely expensive way of hiring a car. I have just arranged a weeks hire for €145 inclusive 7 days hire.
Further to my last entry we have just returned from Kef, and the San Giorgio which was as good as before, if not better.
We are just about to return to the San Giorgio for the thid time, and from the comments on this site it sounds as great as ever.
What
can I add to what Kelsey Said Before... Everything was Excellent, The
Staff make every effort to make the stay memorable and treated us like
part of the family, We came home on the 2nd of June 2005 and want to go
back now! We had an sensory overload of some of the best views in the
world I could not fault this place. The birds do feed from your
hands and the flowers views are stunning.... As before if you want
further info contact me also... Christine the Thompsons rep is from
Stoke, so its nice to hear booook and looook
Oh I hired a car from Eurocar (via Thompsons in the Hotel) and bumped
the wall...worried all night and in the morning told the Hire guy.....
He said "your on holiday its covered so dont worry...bring it back
sunday and thats that"
My two Teenage girls were so sad on returning home, as the staff all spoke and made them part of their family.
"California" (ask KIRI the waiter) Hello Makis.
The picture was the view from our balcony
JUST GOT BACK FROM 2 WEEKS IN KEFALONIA ON 26/5/05. STAYED AT THE SAN GIORGIO IN SKALA, IT WAS THE BEST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN. WE WERE ALLOCATED A ROOM QUITE HIGH UP, BUT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT AS WE HAD THE MOST FANTASTIC VIEWS FROM UP THERE OUT TO SEA, UP THE MOUNTAIN AND OVER SKALA. THE FLOWERS AROUND THE TERRACE WERE BEAUTIFUL. THE STAFF AT THE HOTEL WORK VERY HARD TO KEEP EVERYTHING RUNNING SMOOTHLY. IN A MORNING WHEN WE WENT DOWN FOR BREAKFAST THERE WOULD BE A FEW PEOPLE CLEANING SWIMMING POOLS/LOUNGERS ETC, THERE WOULD BE A FEW GARDENING AND TIDYING. CLEANERS WERE BUSY AND THE STAFF IN THE RESTAURANT MAKING SURE THERE WAS PLENTY OF EVERYTHING.
WE ARE ABOUT TO COME FOR OUR 2ND VISIT. CANT WAIT THE HOTEL AND STAFF WERE THE BEST. WE LOVED THE ISLAND SO MUCH WE ARE NOW LOOKING AT MOVING THERE PERMENANT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. WE HAVE TRAVELLED GREECE FOR 18 YEARS, THIS HOTEL IS THE BEST WE HAVE STAYED IN.ALSO THE PEOPLE OF KEFALONIA ARE THE NICEST WE HAVE MET & WE HAVE MET SOME NICE PEOPLE OVER THE YEARS. WELL DONE TO ALL STAFF AT SAN GEORGIO THANK YOU
We have just returned from a week’s self catering holiday at the San Giorgio with Olympic Holidays and had a most wonderful time. The accommodation was very clean, we had regular maid service and the facilities were excellent, though we were fortunate to have an apartment on the lowest level. We had a problem with one of the blinds, which we reported mid morning on the first day, by the time we went back at lunchtime it had been fixed. The best thing about the Hotel is the pool areas, with more than enough comfortable lounges for all, while we were there, there were so many spare lounges it was a major decision of where to sit. The snack bar at lunchtime was excellent and the help yourself salads were perfect for lunch.
The restaurant was reasonable, however as we were self catering we had to reserve a table in reception, though on the first day when we arrived in the evening, they fitted us in. Generally the standard of the food we had on the three occasions that we eat at the hotel was good.
I would agree with others that the Hotel is a bit out of town, it is a good 40 minutes walk, though a pleasant one along the coastal road (we wouldn’t walk back at night though) and we had no trouble with the taxi drivers (cost 4 Euros).
You must go to the little cove near the Hotel, about 50 yards along on the road towards Skala, down some steps. Take goggles and snorkel to see the many fish there. Once we found it, we went swimming there most days.
The only criticism of the Hotel and Kefelonia itself is that compared to other Greek Islands, the people are not so friendly, others who we spoke to agreed with this.
However we would definitely go back again
Just got back from the apartments and we had an amazing relaxing time our apartment was high up which was a bonus as it was so peaceful and the views were brilant. the main beach isn't that far and the taxi people were really nice and it only cost 4 euros each way which is worth it if you don't want to arrive at dinner looking windswept.
if your feeling adventurous don't go to the main beach, at the bottom of san giogio lys the sea and their are lots of private coves with steps leading down to the sea, snorkelling was fab and we had our own cove the entire day and watch the sunset, very romantic well worth it!! Can't wait to go back!
hi kerina we to are going to kefelonia on the 23rd sept staying in skala but we are not sure of accomadation till we get there it is one of three and the san giorgio is one of the 3,we have been to zante already this year in july and wanted to have just a week away and frinds went to skala and loved it,the greeks are very friendly and we love the slow pace of life.hope we get to say hello.
I know that there is a Jim that works in Scandinavia Bar
Staying at SG in a weeks time, and just been reading some of the comments on these pages, and starting to worry a little about how far away the beach is?!! The brochure says 'beach opposite hotel' which i took to mean reasonably close, but is it a fair walk?
Thank you
my boyfriend and i are going on holiday, staying at the san giorgio apartments. We would like to know if anyone who has visited the area knows of a local gym?
hi,going to san georgio apts sept 23 this year, booked a low floor room.just wondered where to go for a good laugh,we are in our late 20s. also anywhere romantic to go for my wedding anniversary.id like to know what the staff are like.what the weathers like that time off year.any tips would help and about all really!!never been to greece before only turkey.anyone going there at the same time join us for a drink.
Hi,
We stayed at the San Giorgio in Skala from 26-07-04 to 02-08-04. I would definitely recommend the SG to anyone who likes the quiet life. Skala is a GOOD 40 minute walk as mentioned in previous comments and the Taxi service is unpredictable to say the least. Look out for the Taxi driver whose only words of english are "Please close the doors gently" because he's a rip off merchant !. Also on the topic of taxis, be aware that they finish at midnight or 1am. This we found out while looking to go back to the San Giorgio after one too many cocktails in Cafe Veto about 2:30 am. Your holiday Rep probably won't give you this very important info as all they want to do is sell you overpriced boat trips and such like !!
As mentioned in previous posts, the Hotel is superb. The rooms are kept spotlessly clean and the service from the staff around the complex is excellent.
Skala village is fairly quiet. I don't think there are any nite clubs as such, but Cafe Veto can be nice and lively. Neros bar up from the Kiosk is an excellent bar to chill out in. Totally different atmosphere and decor to any other bar you would see in Greece. Staff are really good and friendly. Well worth a visit !!
Restaurants are nice and reasonable. about 40 euro for a meal for 2 and a bottle of wine. Best ones I visited and can still remember the names were "Flamingo", "Ta Pitharia" (excellent greek restaurant).
The only bad thing I found about the Hotel was the fact its a bit too far to walk to the beach in the midday sun. There are some nice coves nearby, but if you like the beach, it can be a bit hard to motivate yourself for the walk there and back each day. In saying that though, we were there during the high temperature month.
Hope this info helps as I read the posts before I went and they were all fairly accurate.
Rhys
Are there buses running close to the San Giorgio - into Scala or any other towns?
Thanks
