Hotel, very clean,Staff, brilliant. Mypartner and myself visited the Makis for the third time in the last four years a nd as usual were treated like long lost frienda by everybody. Also this time we took friends with us who had never been to the kefalonia and they were blown away by the friendliness of everyone atthe hotel they decided we are going back nex June(2007) Cannot wait. Date visited:May 13 -27 incl.
over the years i have travelled around the world quite a bit, and have stayed in some 'gourmet' 5* hotels. the one thing i have never seen is a person cry when they leave, that's what happened here. the experience was simply that good. so the makis wont win awards as the sw**kiest hotel in the world but what it does have is its own style; extremely clean, polite, ultra efficient, freindly and a great location to boot! i really cant recommend this hotel enough, it is without doubt the best hotel i have stayed in, on at least a dozen greek islands. we have been back in the uk a week now and have just booked to go back next week...i think that says it all!
Just returned from spending our best 2 weeks holiday ever. The hotel is modern, clean and of excellent quality by Greek standards. could not believe we had a shower with a tray sliding glass door and constant HOT water coming from a perfect shower head.
we stayed at the makis hotel in may 2006 all6 of us its fab we are all going may 2007 the party gets bigger now 8 the people are lovely sohia poppy dennis and all the staff
My wife and I are going to the Makis Hotel in May. We have been on the Makis Hotel website and we like what we saw. If the hotel is half as good as the website suggest then we think we are in for a good time. This will be our first time in Kefalonia, but we have been on other islands in greece.

Returned just last night from a fabulous week at this hotel, so the memories are fresh and accurate… With a relaxed yet professional atmosphere both the hotel staff who all spoke excellent English, and the Kosmar Holiday reps (all British and all of a certain age) looked after us brilliantly. Unusually for some holiday reps (past experience!) they actually did what they said they would do… They turned up on time, were always friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble for them.
I was silly enough to forget to pre-book my hire car and wanted one after the second day’s chilling, but our rep John had one at the hotel in a flash. The next morning, just after dawn, I came down to find John testing the pool water, which he told me he did every week, for purity, cleanliness, the distance from the surface of the pool to the tiled edge, (an important safety feature) and various other checks, including really pulling at the handrails around the pool to ensure they were firmly fixed…
The bedrooms, which were advertised as being small, were no such thing! I’m six feet one and twenty stone, and I can assure you they were plenty big enough for me. The free air conditioning was reasonably efficient, adequate for September, (around twenty five to thirty degrees on most days) and, cleverly, switched itself off when you opened the window to avoid selfish people wasting electricity. With the odd exception (more below) the rooms were well maintained and very clean, and the vast majority had their own balcony facing the sea. The breakfast restaurant, which had it’s own very large balcony, was, as expected, clean and well run, with a good selection of continental breakfast foods.
The bar, (again, half outdoors and half in) was well stocked, relaxed and happy, the lovely Poppy looking after us during the hot and sunny days around the pool, and at night the “Iamas” man entertaining us with his good humour and brilliant cocktails.
The local restaurants were excellent, and there were at least a dozen within fifteen minutes gentle stroll from the hotel. This was important to us, as, whilst three of our party were in their thirties, my wife and I are well in our sixties. This is definitely not a noisy nightlife venue, although one or two of the bars in town offered good modern music, with various TV channels thrown in, many of which seeming to specialise in football, and all of them competing with the music… Almost without fail, the local people spoke good English, and we were made to feel very welcome to their island.
Any drawbacks? We would have liked a kettle in the room, and some lights in the bathroom (despite reporting the latter problem on our second day) but generally, we were more than happy with the hotel.
We met one lovely family from Warminster who were on their fourth visit to the hotel within the past two years, and we can well understand why. We will certainly come again next year!
My daughter and I have just returned from 2 weeks staying in the Makis hotel in Skala, which opened in 2004. The hotel had a very relaxed feel to it. The rooms are very comfortable with air con, safe and fridge included in the price. Maids clean every day and change bed linen and towels twice a week. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this beachfront hotel. Most rooms have a balcony and we were lucky enough to have a sea view. I look forward to a return visit.
Just come back from spending 2weeks at the makis hotel with my boyfriend. The hotel was excellent, the staff were friendly without being over the top and the hotel was definately well looked after. The room was small but had everything we needed, all the extras were included free: Hair dryer, safe, mini frdge, air conditioning. Every room seemed to have a balcony, although ours was unfortunately not facing the sea! The resort itself was great, lots of restaraunts, bars and taverna's but was not too noisy, i recomend Ta Pitharia and The Pines, neither too expensive but both served great food. It seemed quite a quiet resort in May but seemed like there would be much more to do from June onwards. Would definately go back again and would have no hesitation about booking at the Makis Hotel but would of liked to be able to hire a car, although if like me you are unable to do so then would recomend the island coach trip and Ithica cruise.
Me and husband Stewart went here last july for two weeks and absolutley loved it, This was a new hotel for 2004 which is situated right on the sea front nest to pikiona pool bar, it was very clean, rooms cleaned daily with fresh linen 3 times a week. Took the B&B option and the breakfast were held in the central building where you can have breakfast on the balcony looking at the wonderful sea veiw. All the staff and makis the owner were very helpfull and friendly. We had a room at the rear of the apartment blocks and had a problem with our noisy aircon but ,Makis came to our room a few times to fix it for us. Oh yeh and aircon was INCUDED in the holiday cost. We will definitely return.
