Lovely food and good service - ate at the one on the harbour. Also frequented by locals so a good sign.
Ate at both Captains table[one in the square and one on the harbour] and found them both good, although the harbour one just slightly better.Food was good service good not expensive.
THE BEST
Dont be fooled there are 2. We had 2 very different experiences.
Visited Captains Table on Saturday night. Really busy so did not mind the wait. The food was ok, all meals were just ok, the fish was all from frozen and not fresh. I found the meal to be quite expensive for the small portions you got.
The atmosphere was good as live bands were playing in the square and lots of locals were out with the children.
We went to Argostoli one night and ate here. It was really busy and there was live music on- atmosphere was great even though service was a little slow because of how busy it was. Tried kefalonia meat pie here, food was really nice, we would have eaten here again if we had gone back to argostoli.
We had our first meal at Captains on the water on arrival in Argostoli, mousaka, and there famous Kefalonia pie the food and service was excellent. We did eat at other restaurants even Captains in the square but none measured up to them.THe staff were more than helpful.
Went to the Captains Table by the harbour for lunch after a trip on the Glass Bottom Boat. We ordered spaghetti napolitan and a club sandwich both were very nice. Cannot comment on the Captains Table in the main square as didn't dine there, apart from when we walked by one evening the restaurant was very busy.
We ate at both restaurants and the food was excellent. We recommend the pizza - it was the best! Also we had a 'Captains risotto' for a starter which was delicious. The restaurant on the seafront is in our opinion the better of the two - service not as good but views of the harbour and traffic chaos make it interesting!
we did both the restaurants-the one near the sqaure for dinner first class lovely food and very freindly, the other for breakfast-decent food-service fine (we were the only ones in there) view lovely.
The one near the square has good food and service at average prices. The scores given reflect this It is particularly good on music nights but either book or arrive early to ensure a table.
The newer restaurant on the seafront is below average by comparison with very average food and slow service. Not recommended.
The one near the square. The Greek- American woman is friendly and not as
pushy as she first appears. The food is good, the service good, live music
frequently. Speak Greek for a smaller bill!
The one on the harbour. They haven't quite got it here service-wise. . . but the
food is fine.
Tryed the one on the harbour. Very authentic.
We visited the restaurant just off the main square, and I have to say we were unimpressed considering the good reviews we had read previously. The service was very poor, the food not great, and the prices a bit higher than average which is to be expected considerig the location. All in all a big disappointment.
A nice restaurant even it the service is slow. On the waterfront sio there is a lovely breeze. Nice food, mostly comes with vegetables rather than chips for a change. Try the stuffed pork fillet or mustard chicken
Excellent meal, excellent staff, excellent atmosphere.
This is definitely our favourite restaurant. We went to the one on the harbour, it was lovely. All the waiters were really friendly and the food was excellent. We found it when we made our first trip to Kefallonia in 2001 and ate there several times, this year we went there on our first night and re-visited 4 or 5 times!!
We were in Fanari for two week and went here three times. The food is excellent and the waiters are really easy going. Very good menu - try the meat pie, meatballs and the grilled prawns. All that we had was excellent - try this place early on - you'll love it!
We travelled from Svoronata to here three or four times as we enjoyed the ambience as well as the food. (The one on the sea front road as there are two) A good variety of seafood and veggie dishes for those who don't eat meat. Portions are ample but would recommend a starter if you are hungry! Nice wine list, try some Kefalonian reds, suprisingly good. Service is excellent, especially the older portly waiter with greased back hair- his English is good! Complimentary cocktail offered after your meal was also a nice touch! Go there!
When we visited it was very busy. The waiters were running up and down to ensure good service. Draught Warsteiner at a very resonable price, excellent food but be aware you must be starving if you order a starter and main course meal! Excellent value for money!
