You must visit Nicki & Spiros, great food and such terrific views whilst eating lunch
We have been visiting Kefalonia for many years and one of our favourite spots is the Castle with it's fantastic views. A must is to stop off at the Castle Cafe run by Nicki & Spiros. Great welcome, fantasic food and the best milk shakes on the island.
The castle is well maintained, although there were maybe a few to obvious restorations. Great views for taking photographs and lots of interesting nooks and crannies to stick your head into. Unlike the UK, there are a few places where a stray child could fal off the battlements, so parents should be watchful. Definitely worth a visit.
Excellent views across to Argostoli and along the coast. Try the cafe next door - perfect setting, lots of fragrant flowers and friendly owners.
I can confirm that the home-made chocolate cake at 'The Castle' (or 'To Kastro', to show off) cafe was gorgeous and only 2 Euros! There are 2 ex-pat ladies who work there and they are both friendly and a fountain of local knowledge...oh the views from the castle are excellent too! You can see Argostoli, Mount Ainos and all the way to the east coast from there - I can recommend going at sunset!
Fantastic views from here, it is worth a visit if you have the time although it still seems to be under restoration. There is no entrance charge. Combine a visit here on the way back from a trip to the nearby Robola winery.
We were at the Castle last Sunday, the 24th. Both the Castle and the village surrounding it are well worth the visit for the views alone. A trip to the nearby Castle Cafe located right outside the entrance is also worth it. You get a great welcome and the food is really good and reasonably priced. The home made apple pie was superb as I am told was the home made pear cheese cake.
A visit to the castle is a must, the views are just breathtaking and the place is seeped in history. One word of caution, the Greeks arn't as obsessed with Health & Safety as we are in the UK, watch your youngsters there are some steep drops with no barriers, but dont be put off the place is well worth a visit.
We visited on 17/07/03 and the castle was fully open! Very hot up there, but well worth a visit as the views are fantastic, plus it's free!!!
EVERY TIME WE VISIT KEFALONIA WE ALWAYS MAKE SURE WE GO UP TO THE CASTLE, COS THE VIEWS ARE WONDERFUL.
We visited this place on a tour of the south of the island, on the whole the tour was very good but the castle was closed and apparently won't be open until restoration work is completed next year. So to be honest its not worth the visit.
Visited in May 03 so was not open to go inside. My 5 yr old son who is well into the castle, knight & dragon thing thought it was pants. However my husband and I thought the views were spectactular and worth the visit.
Well worth a visit Just close your eyes - and drift off to Wherever !! Imagination needed Views - wonderful Remember the camera !!! You will surely need it - you cannot capture the atmosphere - but you will capture the view !!!!
One of the highlights of our holiday, the ruins are extensive and the views spectacular. You can drive almost up to the entrance and there is a very pleasant cafe where you can stop for a drink. The only criticism is that there is no information about the history of the site.
Well worth the visit. Restoration work carried out extremely well. The before and after pictures really spell it out for you.
We went here about half an hour before it closed (closes at 7pm) wished we'd gone a bit earlier as it's a great place to explore! Views from up there are fab and the journey to the top gives spectacular views as well.
The day we decided to visit it had been raining and we were told that everyone had gone home and the Castle would not open because it was too wet. The veiws from the top are spectacular and worth seeing even if you can't go into the Castle.
Fantastic - closed on Mondays, and shuts at 3pm other days. Views are excellent. Worth the drive up there.
Views from the top are spectacular - you won't see better. Castle quite often closed and you don't know when it is open - worth the trip anyway.
