Just returned on Sunday from the Pericles, was really looking forward to meeting Nicos, but he has now left.
Great location, extremely friendly people, cannot say the same for the guy that owns the place, a very miserable chap. Everyone else in the hotel was great and I would like to add that the Thomas Cook reps, Ruth (who has now left and gone to Skala) and Lindsay were great, best reps that I have ever met. Hired a car for the first week and chilled out the second week. The tavernas down the road were good and very reasonable, the best one is the Riveria. If you get the chance Assos is a must to visit and Fiskardo. We also went on two excusions, the Onassis cruise and the Ithica one, both good but if you only want to do one go for the Onassis cruise. We will definately be going back there.
Mellisani lakes are a 'must visit' very tranquil and very beautiful
You must visit Nicki & Spiros, great food and such terrific views whilst eating lunch
You must visit Nicki & Spiros, fantastic food, Nicki is from the UK and has been there for 16 years, they are really friendly and such fantastic views whilst eating lunch
The walk up the steep mountain was worth, the views are breathtaking. Also there is a Taverna there sorry cannot remember the name (I think the guys name was Pathos, the food was so fresh and the staff very friendly, definately one of my favourite places on the island.
We went to Agia Efimia a few times and I am really kicking myself, whilst driving there we saw a goat in a tree and I didnt take a photo, now I am back in the UK no-one is believing it, please just make sure if you see it please take a picture and post it on this site.
Alex a Canadian guy now runs the bar, really nice guy but cannot make a cocktail which at 4 1/2 euros is a bit of a dissappointment.
Rooms are clean and basic and what we did'nt realise at the time of booking is that you can request a double bed and a room that is quite, as unfortunately the noise from the bar does to tend to carry but hey when you're on holiday who cares. The rooms have an air conditioning unit. They do have a safe deposit box but the charge is 20 something euros.
The meals they do appeal to different tastes I think, we only tried it once and to be honest if I'd have dished it up at home they would have thrown it in the bin, my sister however did try it a few times but to be honest only had one good meal, your best bet is to walk into Sami to one of the lovely Tavernas, meals are excellant and very reasonble.
Hi AmyNo charge for the air conditioning. As for Nickos, its all very hush hush as to what happened to him and where he went.
There was definately no mooing when we went last month only barking.
I could also recommend the Riveria, fantastic food.
If any one that's due to go could find out from Lindsay the rep what happened to the young girl last month that gave birth and didnt even know she was pregnant, I'm bursting to find out was it a happy ending and did they manage to sort out passport, baby clothes etc....
Hi Suzanne,
Thats great, I do like a happy ending. We will definately being going back just wish I was there now.
We are thinking about booking a couple of weeks at this hotel but are a bit concerned by Michelle Crosby's comments (posted July 20th 03) Does the owner really go into your room to check what food you may have and what are these extra charges she mentions.
Any comments welcome before I go ahead and book
Donna Alexander,
We returned Sunday 23rd July our second visit, the Pericles and Sami are just as fantastic as ever. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and we cannot wait to go back again my only regret is we had to come home. The staff at this hotel are lovely and really do look after you. So to anyone just about to go out, have a fantastic time
You must visit the Taverna next door to the castle Nikki who moved from England about 14 years ago, runs this place with her Greek husband, the hospitality and the food cannot be faulted, you realy do get looked after so well, I think what makes this place so special is that they really do go that extra mile just to look after you, and if you get the chance you must try her new desert which as of last week she still hadnt managed to think of a name for it, it consists of hazlenut meringues, home made chocolate sauce, ice cream and it is scrummy
