Having visited Skala in May 2006, we found this restaurant towards the end of our two weeks. We only hope he had found it first. On our return in September, there was only one place to go. Yes, 13 our of 14 nights we used this wonderful restuarant.
We had a number of meals here (19th Sept to 3rd Oct 2006), including English Breakfast, Swordfish, Lambshank, Stuffed Tom's, etc. Food, wine and service all excellent. The taverna is situated in a terrific location and was one of the best we visited during our great holiday. This is a must try! Roger & Mary Wakefield
By far the best Restaurant in Skala. Food outstanding and atmosphere great! Fillet steak with blue cheese and whisky was one of the best meals I have ever had. It's nice to be just off the main street and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Would definitely make a point of going again.
Went to Galera one evening. We'd gone there really early - about 6.30 and there were only 2 other tables occupied yet there were several sharp intakes of breath and glances at each other from the waiting staff as if they were going to struggle to fit all four of us in - despite it being way less than half full when we left later.
Our favourite restaurant in Skala: proper home cooked food, friendly service, very clean & more tranquil spot than some on the street places.
We only managed to eat here once which was a shame as the restaurant was really nice they played relaxing music the time we were there they had on Enya which we found really chilling. I tried Kefalonian Meat Pie it was delcious and very filling so this place was real vlaue for money.
Food was good but way to rushed for my liking we was in and out with in an hour and half, and it was not that early as most eat out at 9 so did we.
there is far better places in SkalaWe ate here many times in the last fortnight. Very welcoming staff, excellent food and value for money, cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Ate at this restaurant 4 times. excellent choice of food, excellent service, nothing too much trouble.
A great restaurant - excellent food, wine and atmosphere. We're coming back to Scala for our third time in a few weeks and we'll definitely be paying a visit. Last year we had a big group with a 1 year old in it. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. First class.
we ate here two or three times and evey time the food was exerlent the wine first class and the staff very welcoming.we have been to skala twice and are coming back again in august for more of the same good times and great food look forward to seing you again.
Two of us ate for 30 euros. The food wasn't bad: a greek salad (moderate, quite boring) and lamb souvlaki (rather small and dull) plus two cheap, fun puddings, bread, a glass of wine and a coke. The service was friendly and very good: they treated us well. The balcony was a pleasant place to dine. We also ate at Aquarius, Aiolos, Apostolis, The Pines and Flamingo (all better than Gallera) and at Scandinavia (worse). Aiolos was the pick of the bunch, for both food and location.
Just Back July 2005
We visited the Gallera just once on our holiday this year. Ihad souvlaki and my husband had the pork kotsi. My souvlaki was gorgeous. I had souvlaki in 4 other tavernas and in all of those it just tasted like grilled meat. Here it tasted as if it had been marinaded as it should and it was also served with pitta bread, tzatziki, rice and vegetables...gorgeous. Whereas at Skandinavia I got one kebab and half a jacket potato. I was starving an hour later. Can definitely recommend it here.
Sorry, my experience at Gallera was contrary to everyone elses. Ordered Kleftiko and found the potatoes cold and hard and the meat was more bone than actual meat. When I explained to the waiter why I hadn't ate it he just shrugged and walked away.
we got tipped by other residents in our hotel of galera it proved to be extremly popular although well hidden we had a mouthwatering dish called kokkinisto followed by a lovely dessert at the end of the meal when we asked for our bill or as the friendly staff in galera told us in greek it was logarismo we had a complimentry frog shot you will see us next year
You'll find a friendly welcome at the Gallera. Their tastfully furnished resturant (no paper table coths here) offered some of the freshest food we ate during our stay in Scala. There was a wide range on the menu. Worth trying for starters are the cheese stuffed peppers or squid. We couldn't fault any dish we had but their Kleftico and Stifado take some beating, washed down with a presentable jug of house wine at about 6 Euros a litre.
We ate at the Galera twice whilst on holiday in Skala,The second time we booked a couple of days in advance to be sure of places. It is very popular and you may have to queue for a table. The management & staff were efficient and friendly,The childrens menu was brilliant for the kids,We were a large party of 15 and all our food was served with perfect timing, the management had by prior arrangment obtained a fabulous birthday cake for a member of out party which was presented at the end of the meal complete with balloons & sparklers.A brilliant evening enjoyed by all,We would recommend this taverna very highly.
We really enjoyed our meal here. Service was good, food was lovely - a very nice evening!
best meal of the holiday! one of the only places which does a proper greek meze - would highly recommend it - the only thing I wish was that we hadn't discovered it on our last night!
We thought it was the best restaurant we've been to in the whole Aegean sea. Catered excellently for kids and for those who have special dietary needs. Must try the frog cocktails and the mushroom soup. Speros and Mikos were excellent hosts. Great value for money.
wow! the Gallera is one of the best two restuarants in Skala. The waiters are lovely and friendly and the food is fabulous. i had tortellini two of the threet imes we were there and it was delicious. My boyfriend really liked the chicken pasta, (cant remember what it was called), but I would say that if you go to Skala, you definelty need to go to the Gallera.
Also if you book with kosmar, the welcome meeting is here, adn they give you a card with 10% off meals at the Gallera. the waiters kept giving us this card back so we could re-use it. Fab!
this is a very nice place to eat. nice food, mostly greek. very greeky restaurant. it has also got menu for the kids
My wife had the special offer of the day Kotsi ( Pork joint ok ) my lamb was tough.
nice friendly taverna, good prices and excellent food. I agree with jooles marsden the lady does seem familiar, looks a bit like celine deon
A busy restaurant which always seemed to have customers waiting for tables.
I had the chicken stuffed with spinach & cheese which was excellent.
Service good & prices not too expensive.
Went on our first night..then twice again!!!Loved the chicken stuffed with spinach and cheese. They also do a good wine selection(not just greek!).Well priced..fab service,,lady behind the bar looked strangly familiar, and was very friendly.Definately a must.
Very nice place but when we went back a third time I ordered lasagne but got tagliatelle!! The waiter insisted it was lasagne - it was nice what ever they wanted to call it!
Returned here three times in the fortnight 'cos the two teen girls loved it too! Good food, friendly staff, good atmosphere - and just off the busy main street so it's nice and calm, but close to the gentle nightlife to round off the evenings. See you guys next year!!
The food was fantastic, the menu had so much choice. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We went back again for out last night
The staff at the Gallera were possibly the most friendly and pleasant in Scala. We visited a few times. Some meals were better than others. The Vegetable Moussaka and Tortellini were my favourites (I'm a veggie).
i really enjoyed my meal at the gallera the staff were very responsible and helpfull the salad is wonderfull in my opinion and i would love for maybe a greek rstauraunt to be moved to nearer where i live (the gallera if you could) Many Thanks Claire
i enjoyed the food and i went with my parents i would like them to take me there again
Again, one of the first restaurants we tried during our 2 week stay and we didn't return. I felt the ingredients in my starter and main course weren't fresh - ie garlic mushrooms which tasted like they were tinned not fresh, followed by a very small chewy lamb souvlaki on soggy pitta bread, canned carrots, and fried potatoes. Possibly a 'one off' experience but first impressions are important!
this is the best reaustraunt hi to all the staff and i cant wait to visit the gallera in the summer good luck this reasturant has the best food around and good luck to everyone in there for the summer
You must try the Greek meze.......superb!
