The apartments are basic but all you do is sleep in them so does it really matter. The pool was lovely but cold, although we did go in October! Only a few minutes from the beach and towards one end of Lassi. The bar is nice, so are the staff and if there is someone in there, it is open all night! Hot water only at 10am and 6pm but that is pretty normal for basic apartments.
What a weird place, moss growing out of the walls. Very atmospheric but dated music.
Although we went in october you could still get on the beach. Fairly clean and the beacbar food was ok. The waves were gigantic, sometimes to big for a six foot bloke!! Maybe it was the season or the stormy weather! Suitable for children if the waves are small.
Im a very cold person, and October was still hot enough for me during the day, absolutely freezing at night. The weather was okay during the day 2 sunny days, the rest overcast and some rain. Absolutley poured some nights with the most excellent thunder storms, only woke us once though! Rain very wet! Got soaked to the skin in one minute! You need to hire a car in October as its not really weather for sitting on a beach all day. Still the last day was nice (at the airport where we were delayed 7 hours!!!).
It was very hyped up. If you have seen some magnificant caves in your time, this one doesn't measure up. The size of the cavern was impressive, but there is only one! It takes about 10 minutes to look round it. I got my hopes up reading the reviews and was disappointed. Although if you haven't seen many caves before, it will impress you! Only 3.50 Euros to get in I think so not a rip-off.
Probably the most picturesque fishing village i've ever seen, but all the cafes crammed in around the edge of the port ruined it a little. Food at the restaurants was good but expensive as were the shops but try the bakery, the honey pastry thing was really nice as was their bread! Lots of sunsail boats in on the day we were there, saw someone i went to college with!!!
One word of advice - read the book they give you before going on the boats. As we went in October, there was no queue and I didn't get to read the booklet before we went on the boat. I felt it was nothing special. After reading the history, I would have loved to have gone back to experience it knowing what I had learnt, it would have been much more magical. Its not as big as you would imagine a "lake", also go on a sunny day to get the full effect of the caved in roof on the water.
Lassi is great for bars and restaurants and has a good nightlife although it is still quite quiet. The people were lovely although you seemed to see more English people than Greek people! The road through Lassi was not noisy at night and not that busy during the day. There is a bar on the way from Lassi to Argostoli that hands out booklets on Kefalonia, it gives much better information than the reps do on beaches, reataurants, where to visit, etc, etc. Only a 20 minute walk to Argostoli, unless you stay at the end near the Airport, in which case, you can add another 20 minutes. Great for first timers to Greece.
Oh my! looks like it went down hill towards the end of the season. The greek dancing night was good. Stavros dances with two tables in his teeth, and they dance on fire, they seemed to enjoy it. The music does get a bit much after a while, they play the same song over and over and over. Food ok, the fish was especially nice.
We only used the restaurant, during a political rally so it was not quiet at all. The food was absolutely gorgeous, try the pepper steak cooked to perfection, Pork, which is chargrilled and for afters the Chocolate mousse (very dark chocolate with orange peel). It was the only dessert i had on holiday but I can't ham it up enough!
First Choice reps were absolutely rubbish. At the welcome meeting they just tried to flog their day trips etc and gave no useful information about the island (we actually got that from a booklet from a restaurant two days before the end of the holiday). We had a eight hour flight delay back to England. The reps knew this the night before and did not inform us until we were sat on the coach ready to go the airport. If they had told us, we would not have spent the rest of our money (like a lot of people) and stocked up on newspapers, food etc to avoid the overinflated prices at the airport compared to the rest of the island.
