This is the nicest hotel that we have stayed in in Greece. The rooms are clean, really spacious, lovely big double bed with kettle, hairdryer and proper power shower with cubicle. The pool and pool area is lovely and the staff are brilliant too. The location of the hotel for us was perfect - it is about 5-10mins walk into skala but most of the walk is now pavement so not too much road work and it is all flat anyway. The road is`nt particularly busy either (but we went in June). It is a very quiet and relaxing hotel and there is no way anybody could be dissapointed. It is spot on The only little complaint we had was that the breakfast was a bit dull. It is the same thing everyday which was toast, croissant, jam, yoghurt, muisli or cornflakes. However for a small charge they will cook a full breakfast or egg or beans on toast which is really yummy.
We enjoyed Skala but found it a bit "British" which is`nt necessary a bad thing. To answer a few questions first, there are no ATMs in Skala so either make sure you have enough cash or hire a car/taxi to the next resort of Poros which is very near and has a bank. Best for car hire in my opinion is Greekstones and i highly recommend them. Nightlife in Skala consists of meal in taverna and then cocktails in a bar later (captains bar has the best atmosphere) There is now a childrens bar opened called Zebras which has lots of things for children like tabletennis and kiddie rides. Most of the tavernas are quite expensive - did`nt find any cheap ones! To sum Skala up it is pretty, very relaxing, lovely atmosphere and nice tavernas. The average age of the other tourists i would say is 40+ and they are all british!
This was one of our favourite restaurants and it would be a shame if you missed it. The food is lovely and the service very good. You must have their chocolate cake for dessert - it is heaven!
Food here was ok. My husband had the steak which was overdone. I had paella which was just average. The baklava dessert was lovely though - it was huge!
we found the food here just average. I had the kefalonia pie which was ok, my husband had the veal which was like rubber. Only ate here once.
We only ate here for lunch but i enjoyed the food. My husband ordered chips and only got about three! I however ordered the sardines which were the best i have ever tasted and stronly recommend them!
You must not miss this restaurant. It is about a 10-15 minute walk out of skala towards poros. It is a huge wooden boat on the cliff overlooking the sea - bliss! You cannot miss it - just keep walking until you see the boat on your right. The food is absolutely gorgeous, the menu vast, the service brilliant and the atmosphere romantic. Please make the time to walk to this restaurant as you wont be dissapointed
Go here for your fish meal - it is lovely. We liked the setting as well cos it was really quiet and romantic.
This boat/restaurant is now called Penelopes. See my review under "Penelopes"
Dont agree with the previous two comments however we always sat at the edge which i guess is a little less claustaphobic! I had read all the reviews on this restaurant before we went and really wanted it to fail as i thought it was too overhyped! Oh boy were they right - this restaurant is fantastic. It was the only one we went back to again and me and my husband are fussy. I had the lamb which was so tender it melted and my husbands steak was perfect. In fact the whole meal was You must also have desert here as they are devine. This restaurant was SUPERB Pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for.
what a brilliant place Great cocktails, Great staff and Great atmosphere. DO NOT miss this place - you are in for a treat!!
Antonis is a really funny man Oh and the service was excellent too! Highly recommend
