Skala Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Having just spent one of the best weeks of our lives in Skala we cannot wait to go again.  We have a 7 year old daughter and everyone made her feel very welcome, from the waiters in the many fantastic restaurants to the staff in our hotel.  The beach was almost deserted every day, lazing in the sunshine gazing out at the turquoise waters...... heaven! Go you certainly will not regret it, but keep it to yourself! Kefalonia is in danger of becoming very touristy over the coming years and I don`t want to share it with anyone!

Tara Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Skala)

Travelling with a child is never easy, but our daughter was made to feel welcome wherever we went, either in the hotel restaurant or one of the many lovely restaurants in Skala town.  This hotel came highly recommended by a friend who had stayed there before so our expectations were high and they were surpassed time and time again.
Having not had any experience of any of the Greek Islands or the hospitality before, we were certainly impressed, so much so we have already booked to go back again next year!! CAN`T WAIT!!

Once again a fantastic day out with Captain Makis and his fantastic crew! Were thrilled, once again, to see the dolphins on our way out and on our way back to the harbour.  Made some great new friends as well (hello Tierni, Emma and Toni!).  In response to question about vegetarians; all catered for on this beach bar-b-q with some delicious food and plenty of wine!

This trip was one of the reasons we rebooked our return trip to Kefalonia and it was worth going back for! book early though, this is one of the most popular excursions and gets booked up quickly.

Thank you again, Captain Makis, keep up the good work and see you again one day soon, we hope.

Tara Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Skala)

Just returned from our second stay at Tara Beach and once again we`ve had a wonderful holiday.  Staff still friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.  Set also in such a beautiful location, with the beach no further than you could throw a flip flop I can`t think of anywhere I would rather stay.  Some of the bigger hotels further along the road do look bigger and more modern but seem to lack the personal touch you get at Tara Beach.  Our room was next door to an elderly couple who have been visiting for 23 years, what more can you say?!  It does seem that people seem to return here year after year meeting up with friends they have made on previous holidays, and it makes for a great atmosphere.

I still have to say the rooms are quite basic, the breakfast still lacks a little imagination, and yes they do still need a new toaster, but everything is clean and comfortable and you can have a delicious full english for a few euros if you wish.

Our daughter was once again made to feel very welcome, and this can make a huge difference if you are travelling with small children.  The pool is lovely, loads of sunbeds, and a childrens area of the pool which is quite safe.

We simply cannot wait to go back!

The Pines - (Restaurants in Skala)

Karen C

Well after reading all the comments we were determined to try The Pines on this trip to Scala, having missed it last time.  The food was great, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere relaxing.  Like all the restaurants in town our daughter was made to feel welcome and they were quite happy to make anything on the menu for her as a `child size` portion which was helpful.

A little more expensive than some of the other restaurants maybe, but worth a visit.

p.s. The self-cleaning toilet seat gave me and my daughter a good laugh too!

June - (Best Time to Visit)

Karen C

Just got back yesterday after spending a week (13-20 June) in Scala.  The weather was scorching, the day we left it was 36 degs!! a little too warm some would say.  Apparently the week before we arrived they had some rain and even a storm, so we picked the right time to go.  Early in the season so not heavily booked and easy to find a table at your favorite restaurants, and a sunbed on the beautiful beach.

Skala Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Karen C

We loved Scala.  Two visits in as many years and cannot wait to go back.  Just the right mixture of bars, restaurants and shops and lots of friendly people.  Hope it won`t be spoilt in the coming years with redevelopment and `over-building` of villas and apartments.
