Skala Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Vicky F

Just returned from a week in the nine muses hotel, skala.  absolutely fab time.  lovely resort (no lager louts/burger kings etc) accomodation one of the best Ive stayed in for years.  Immaculate.  So close to beach, restaurants etc. Fires were horrendous to say the least however all back to normal the next day, hotel cleaned from top to bottom, they couldnt have done more.   Beach lovely, plenty of sunbeds 6 euros for 2 beds and umbrella.  Dont bother buying jelly shoes in England.  Buy the proper ones in resort 7 euros a pair.  Ok beach is shingle with pebbles but with appropriate shoes you will be fine!  Loads of lovely restaurants and couple of good bars - veto our fav.  Need anymore info let me know!

Hi Carl, lucky you!  No the fires didnt spoil anything for us (I didnt say that at the time!)  The hotel staff were wonderful and did everything they could to get things back to normal.  Im sure if it had happened in this country it would have been closed for weeks.   Nothing got damaged, just a lot of ash everywhere.  It actually made us appreciate the rest of the holiday even more.  I wouldnt be worried about the fires if I was you.  Everything from the top of the moutains to the road side (apart from odd trees and the buildings) has already burned so there is nothing left to burn (sounds terrible doesnt it?) It doesnt look as bad as you think though!  I would probably be a bit more concerned if staying in another resort on island that hadnt already been affected by the fires.   Take plug-in mozzie thing and also repellant (if you or anyone in your party gets bitten)  I normally do but was well prepared for them and only got bitten once.  The rooms also have insect screens in addition to patio doors/windows so keep them closed if you can.   Enjoy your holiday, need anymore advice let me know.

Chop Sticks - (Restaurants in Skala)

All in all food not bad, lots of choice, quality of meat not the best.  Service very good.  Restaurant itself very hot - no fans or air con.  If you feel the need for chinese then go for it but wouldnt recommend it as a great quality restaurant.  Starters probably better than main courses.  wine very cheap (again not the best) no "free" water.

Flamingo - (Restaurants in Skala)

Probably one of the best restaurants setting wise - try and sit in the rear "garden"  We thought food very good - prawns for starters and plenty of them.  Steak very good and meat kebab good although not loads of meat bearing in mind the price.  would recommend it although not one of the best we went too.

Manor House - (Restaurants in Skala)

Vicky F          8/10

Went here on our last night after debating which new restaurant to try.  We were lucky and had the last table - this was about 10.  Good setting and good background music.  wine a lot cheaper than most restaurants.  service good despite being busy.  Stuffed chillis for starters - very hot! Very good steak - it was the most expensive on the menu ie 19 euros but worth it for quality.  Not sure about the garlic sauce that smoothered it ie too much.  Pizza also very good but almost too much topping.  would recommend it.

Mikelatos (Scandinavia) - (Restaurants in Skala)

Went here after reading previous reviews. Setting not that great ie over-looking road (not at all busy though)  Nice to have fans bearing in mind how hot it was.  Service great and food very good quality.  Steak fairly expensive ie 18 euros but one of the best (cooked medium) also had pizza with feta - lovely.  Would def recommend this restaurant.

Symposium Restaurant - (Restaurants in Skala)

Vicky F          10/10

Loved this restaurant.  Best setting ie over-looking the beach.  You can book - it gets soo busy especially after 9.  we got a table at 8 and there was only one other couple in there!  Very good service and not hugely expensive bearing in mind setting and overall ambience of restaurant ie music/candles/table settings etc.  Starters fairly expensive but worth it.  Steak was cooked to perfection (with prawns) about 18 euros.  pasta with 4 cheeses only about 9 euros.  Would have def gone back if there longer and probably booked a table for after 9 to get more ambience ie with candles and piano playing.  Simply a restaurant you must visit.

The Pines - (Restaurants in Skala)

Vicky F          9/10

difficult to rate this one as we visited during night of fires and power cut!  This said we had a very good quality meal - limited choice obviously.  Starters very good and main courses lovely.  Very popular indeed every night.  Would have def returned if we had been here longer than a week. Give it a go we are sure you wont be disappointed.

Nine Muses Hotel - (Accommodation in Skala)

Vicky F          10/10

Booked on strength of reviews and wasnt disappointed in the slightest.  Apartments and surroundings eg pools and gardens so clean and well kept.  Location perfect ie across the road from the beach.  Air cond high tech eg remote controlled.  Large studio with adequate facilities eg kettle/toaster etc.  Shower fab ie powerful and very big (unlike most showers in greece that seem to flood bathroom!) All in all couldnt fault this place. Staff very friendly and great service.  You can lie on beach all day and be waited on by Mick who works for hotel - he will run backwards and forwards for you all day fetching food and drink!  Cocktails lovely - happy hour from 6-8 although still 5 euros each (well you are on holiday!!) Limited bar snacks but still very nice - greek salad lovely.  def recommend eating in hotel's restaurant overlooking the beach.  Not that expensive and again great service.  Had pasta twice. about 7 euros and rated 9/10.
