Visited Skala in early July 06. This restaurant is ace, went twice in the week. Its a simple little typical greek taverna, not a large flash restaurant, where they try and teach you greek if you are willing. The 2 guys that were there were very VERY friendly and really look after you, we loved it. Food is great and very reasonably priced, (cheapest we had all week) house wine is very good, suprisingly. Would recommend if you want a peaceful realaxing meal in true greek style.
After reading all the rave reviews I expected something outstanding, however my husband and I were not impressed. The food is very good but thats about all it has going for it. The restaurant is always busy and the tables are very close together. The atmosphere wasn't that of enjoying a nice meal in a typically Greek restaurant, I felt it was more about how quickly they could turnaround tables. I have no idea how they cooked my husbands roast chicken so so quickly, the starter plates were removed and literally replaced by main course. I had Kefalonia Meat Pie at 2 restaurants and the serving I received at the Pines looked like it had been cooked and stood for a while. Whilst this restaurant is not horrible, our personal opinion is that there are far better restaurants to try in Skala before this one. I guess it depends what you like. If you want your food as quick as possible without relaxing and you don't want to attempt to try and speak any Greek, theis is the place for you. This is the only place where the house wine is absoloutely horrid.
Scandinavia is excellent. The food we ate in there (twice) is out of this world. The Stamnaki is gorgeous (cooked in clay pot so very wam food, cools eventually though) and my husband had Kefalonia Meat Pie, which was loads better than the Pines. The Prawns Sagankai is also extremley nice, very large real prawns in a tomato sauce with melted cheese on top. The prices here are very reasonable, we thought, but we mostly ate the Greek dishes which are cheaper than Steak and Chips. The staff .... what can I say. How comfortable do they make you feel, especially if you attempt to speak Greek as we did and got a few lessons from George as we were not saying it quiet right ! World cup was showing which my husband loved, can't say I was thrilled ! Great restaurant if you want wonderful food in a great welcoming atmosphere.
This hotel is wonderful. We had a taxi to the hotel due to the long transfer by coach. We have never had a taxi transfer before and wondered how we would be greeted on arrival at the hotel. This view is based on previous arrivals in Spain and the Canary's where they barely acknowledge you on arrival. However Parwane greeted us and she was lovely. She cheked us in no problem and showed us to our room. Everyone at this hotel is amazingly friendly. It is spotlessly clean everywhere, even the loos by the pool. The pool bar is ace, not massive menu but just enough, clean, tidy, great service and always a friendly smile. We enjoyed the Chef Salad, but 1 between 2 as they were rather large. Nine Muses was recommended to us by a friend and she really raved about it and we did think we would find something wrong with it as we are real Victor Meldrews! Probably because our last few hols have been to the Canarys for some winter sun. Nobody appears to be friendly there. But, no, we couldn't fault Nine Muses - its ace !
