Downstairs rooms were dark, small, poorly equipped and with some alarming electrical wiring. Upstairs rooms were slightly better with some good views and attractive sunsets. There is a steep climb up the hill from the main drag which would not be good for the elderly or those prone to over indulgence. However, if you are not too concerned over the quality of your rooms, the location makes an excellent base for exploring the island.
A large well run Hotel. Although we were on a half board basis we chose to eat out each evening as the dinner menu left alot to be desired - pork chops and brussels sprouts are not my idea of Greek cuisine. The lunch time menu in the beach cafe was much better and was heavily used by the Greeks - always a good sign. Food was traditional Greek, cheap and plentiful. Rooms are basic but well maintained and the air conditioning a God send. The sea water pool was a tad seedy and frequented by hoards of Brits too lacking in imagination to explore this wonderful island.
We christened this the "whiskas" restaurant owing to the similarity between the filling of the meat pie and the famous cat food. We found the waiters to be surly and unhelpful; the heavy emphasis on concrete was akin to dining in an inner city playground. A huge letdown
Consistent if a little unimaginative. Service was charming and efficient and the food always hot. Could have done without the festering cats though.
This place tries too hard to be trendy and lively. Intrusive Greek dancing and live music - why bother when you have a setting of this quality? Food was alright but service could take ages as the place was heaving - the best Marguerita in Greece though
I am delighted that people have finally seen the light on this place -frankly it stank.
This is perfectly adequate accommodation in an ideal position within the resort. The rooms are spacious (larger than the nearby Mediteranee!), clean and surrounded by well maintained gardens boasting lemon and peer trees and vines. As noted by a previous poster, air conditioning is available at 5 per day or a fan can be hired from the shop over the road for 3 per week either way you will require one or the other because the rooms do become stuffy at night. There is indeed a music bar/pizzeria next door (it is actually called East West So Simple is the next one on), which does play music until the early hours however I did not find it loud or intrusive and in fact the background music complemented a late night drink on the terrace outside the room. One word of warning though the owner who carried out the cleaning duties was of a fiery disposition and needed to be approached with care she even gave my kids a bollocking for not keeping their room tidy.
Still a very good restaurant with a wide and varied menu although it has to be said that its Greek dishes are in the minority. Whilst we were there they were offering excellent char grilled sea bass which were the size of small salmon. The Kefalonian meat pies were very good, if not a little too substantial and pasta portions were very generous. All of the staff are cheerful and friendly, the only downer being the length of time it took to get the bill when busy 45 minutes and 4 requests is pushing it a bit. However, would recommend without hesitation.
Slow service, indifferent food and surly staff need I say more?
Firstly, to correct my appalling spelling of pear but also to mention that the owner of Tzivras is very keen to promote the Apartment which was only partially occupied whilst we were there the rooms certainly looked very good and there were excellent views herewith a link to their website :- http://e-business.kefalonia.net.gr/en/infoID.asp?catid=7&ScatID=100&EntityID=781
