Glass bottom boat trip - (Kefalonia Excursions)

A H

We are getting on a bit (40+) and went without our kids for the first time in a few years. We asked the rep as we weren't sure about the games and the kareoke. But she assured us it was OK and you didn't have to join in and she was right. Found it a good trip. Didn't join in with the games but listened to the kareoke (no pressure to take part. The "champagne" turned out to be Asti spumante so don't get too excited. Dissapointed we didn't see dolphins but the captian did seem genuinely dissapointed as well. Food was good, beach was good too. Wouldn't rate as highly as some others but I would go again if out that way.

Melissani Lake - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

A H

Went by car and arrived around 12.00. There was a Q about a mile long with all the coaches so we went up the road and had some lunch - figured the coach trps would be going for lunch at 1.00. When we got back still had to Q for about 1/2 an hour but it was worth it. There are not many touristy places on the island and this seemed to be the most busy. Probably because it is the most attractive. I don't think the cost is unreasonable given that you are given a booklet. Think what it would cost in UK.

Drogarati Cave - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

A H

Don't think the caves were that good. Seen better in Derbyshire (eg Blue John). However, it was good to be down there in the cool for a while and didn't seem too crowded at about 11.00 am. The Cafe across the road was great. Firtly there were house martins (or where they swallows?)nesting under the canopy so you could watch them coming and going and feeding th eyoung ones. Secondly there is a free pool which was not crowded. It was so good we ent back another day just to go in the pool.

Island Tour by coach - (Kefalonia Excursions)

A H

Didn't go so can't say how good it is. However, have read mixed reports.

Cost of car hire was 95 euros for 3 days. guidbook was 5 euros giving details of all the places to visit. We went to all the places on the island mentioned below - at our own pace and aviading the crowds. Why try to do it all in one day? My advice - get a car.

Dionysos Studios - (Accommodation in Poros)

A H

Basic but clean. Calling it an appartment is a bit of a stretch of the imaginaiton. One small fridge, 2 "hotplates" which take about an hour to boil 1/2 pint of water. However, it was clean. Air con would have been better if it went on at 9.00 instead of 10.00 but was good onc eit got going, don't think I could have slept without it. Food was good in the taverna. Had to go and buy a toilet roll one day as the maid din't leave one, seem to be rationed to 2 a week.

Location is good on the harbour with something going on most of the time but not too busy. Short walk into town to work up an apetite and plenty of places to eat. If you like quiet this is a great place. If you are looking for action forget it.

There is no pool but if you are prepared to walk up the hill you can use the pool at the Oceanis hotel for free. We went up there about 3 days and it was very quiet.

Fiat Seicento - (Hire Cars in Kefalonia)

A H

Had one for 3 days and was happy to take it back while I still had use of my right leg, couln''t find a comfortable way to drive it. However, as it is difficult to go fast and as there were only two of us it was just about adequate.
