My husband and I have been coming to Skala for years and so are always keen to try out any new restaurants that open in the village. We were certainly impressed with The White Horse, which we found in the little back street square near the old police station. We ate there twice during our holiday, and both meals were excellent. The first time we had the "Meze for 2", which was fantastic. There were sausages, meatballs, calamari, red peppers stuffed with cheese (really yummy), giant beans, tzatziki, dolmades, saganaki (fried cheese) and it was all delicious. We also had a really nice bottle of cold white San Gerasimo Robola wine to wash it all down. The service was really friendly and we felt extremely welcome. We liked this restaurant so much that we chose to go back there for the last night of our holiday. That time we had the lamb shank - really tender meat - and some tomato, feta and aubergine rolls, which were fab. We would definitely recommend you try The White Horse.
Really friendly guys, very varied and appealing menu - obviously popular as the place was very busy. My husband's meal (Pork Exohico) was really yummy, but my Chicken Romana was extremely salty and I was quite disappointed.
When in Greece, we usually avoid places that don't serve Greek food (you won't find us in the Chop Stiks!), but this Italian looked so nice from the street that we thought we'd break with tradition, just this once! And we were glad we did - I had fresh pasta with Porcini mushrooms and creamy Gorgonzola, which tasted fantastic, and my husband had a very nice stonebaked pizza. We'll definitely go back here on our next visit, and I'll be trying the fresh lobster and caviar spaghetti - someone on the table next to us had it, and it looked yum!
We first tried La Luna 6 years ago and didn't bother going back until last week. We gave it another chance and the food was still rubbish - we won't be going again. Even the bread was soggy. The only 2 bad meals we've ever had in years of coming to Skala have both been at La Luna.
We have hired a car from Antonis on our last 6 visits to Skala and he's a total star. You'll get a good deal, excellent personal service, and loads of helpful advice on routes and places to visit (it was thanks to Antonis that we first discovered Avithos beach and Mama's taverna). We wouldn't go to anyone else.
We have stayed at The Panorama 5 times now, and you couldn't possibly get a better welcome. Every time we clamber off the coach Dino says "Welcome Home!" and forces us to have a beer with him! The hotel is in a great location - near the beach, the main square and everything you need, but still quiet. There are only 8 rooms (clean, comfortable with nice balconies), and Dino and Georgia are lovely hosts. You have to book early, as so many people (like us!) come back here year after year - which says it all really.Oh, and you simply have to try Georgia's wild cherry cheesecake with ice cream - it's amazing. And so's her apple pie. And the coffee and walnut cake.
