We have just got back from the blue horizon today and i disagree with the comments that say the hotel is not up to standard. It is true to say the hotel is very basic and is not a complex but mainly it is just somewhere to rest your head. Breakfast is included in the price but is just bread and jam mainly. The pool is a decent size with a small kiddies pool at the shallow end. Although the Blue Horizon is close to the airport planes are infrequent as the main days for them are tuesday and sunday. Rooms are of decent size but it was noticable that all the bigger rooms went to greek families rather than english. Our stay there was pleasant and relaxing but there isnt a lot for children and especially teenagers to do. I went with my mom and dad and i must say that if there weren't any other teenagers there i would have been bored. luckily we made a few friends and Nikos was very welcoming and bought us a few drinks. All in all a good holiday and a small friendly hotel.
We had our first evening meal of the holiday at las calmas restaurant. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food (i had mousakka and baklavas) was delicious. The next night we went back as part of a trip and found the "meze" delicious but we were slightly dissapointed with the main course as it was cold. after dinner a crowd of us went to the bar and had a pleasant atmospheric few drinks. i particularly enjoyed the neat ouzo thanks guys!
We spent a morning on Ai Helis beach and i found it one of the nicest ive ever been to. The sea is clear and seaweed free YAY! and sunbeds are well spaced out along the beach. I regret not spending longer there but we had to go back as i had a touch of sunstroke The only bad thing about Ai Helis was the steps. 84 down also means 84 back up so i suggest buying all things you need for the day (lilos etc.) before hand. overall a lovely beach with well priced sunbeds p.s dont expect the sand to be golden
We stayed in kefalonia for the first week of august. IT WAS FABULOUS! great for getting a tan as weather was scorching. luckily for me (and my sunburn) the heat dropped towards the end of the week and there was a lovely soft breeze. As we stayed in svoronata it wasnt too busy but going in to Argostoli was crazy! whilst in argostoli i advice you to be careful of young children as you have to nip between the cars on the (very) busy road.
Having just stayed a week in Svoronata (we got back today) i can honestly say it was the most relaxing holiday i have ever had. very peaceful very quiet but dont go if you are looking for rowdy clubs etc. Most restaurants were friendly and welcoming and the beach was fantastic. Not too much in the shops (the decent ones were around 15 mins walk away). Svoronata is a very beautiful part of the island with not too many hotels. I would have liked a holiday a little less quiet but i think it would be a shame to spoil this village by building on it too much. If you are a keen walker there is a lot around but a taxi ride to Lassi is 10 minutes away and Argostoli 20 minutes.
We visited Porto Helis twice on our holiday and it was definetely the best restaurant there. Very friendly and atmospheric. The waiter Peter was such a sweetie and came to our hotel to say hello The portions are HUUUUUGE!!! and (as i have a small appetite) i made the mistake of ordering a starter of saganaki. This fried Feta cheese was delicious but is best when served between a table. The Tzatziki was delicious again if shared by the table. For a main course i had Souvlaki on both occasions which was delicious. We also tried the Kleftiko and Stifado which again were yummy. the only thing i regret is that we didnt have room enough for pudding A fabulous restaurant which was reasonably priced with EXCELLENT food. p.s if you try to speak a few words of greek (efharisto, parakalo etc.) this goes down very well
We had a very enjoyable stay in Svoronata with First Choice and our rep Dave was friendly and helpful without the pressure of selling tours. We went on a trip to Sami and although this wasnt very guided it wasnt made out to be. At the welcome meeting Dave covered all subjects and made sure all questions were answered thank you!
