Things must have changed here. The night we ate my Lamb came served with a big pile of chips and nothing else....not really what i was looking for. My wife and sons meals were OK but no better. Service was awful, no-one smiled also they forgot us so we watched people who had arrived an hour after us eating their main courses while we were still waiting. On a plus they did have traditional Kefalonian folk music on the evening we went which was very good.
We stayed in at the Christoferos Apartments in Lourdas from July 9th to the 24th. Had an absolutely brilliant time and found all the locals very friendly. We mainly used Kanali beach which is halfway between Lourdas and Trapazaki, the path down is steep in places but manageable. You do need to take food and drink with you and a brolly as there is nothing down there but you will be rewarded with a VERY uncrowded beach. Also the sea doesn't shelve quite as steeply as at lourdas. Lourdas has several supermarkets and is well supplied with Tavernas and Bars.
We ate here once. The fish I had was excellent but was only a small portion, however the pizza my wife and son shared looked and tasted like a supermarket frozen one. The service was good and we found the owner friendly.
This was the 5th or 6th time i've travelled with Kosmar but the first to Kefalonia. Our apartments were brilliant, clean and with fresh flowers which were changed every time the apartment was cleaned, also spacious and boasting 3 balconies AND a BATH (never seen one in Greece). Xcel airways were brilliant and the cabin crew always smiling and helpful. The only beef I had and it was a big one was that for the 3rd year running Kosmar changed our flight times and what was a convenient 9 pm return into Bristol became a 1.30 am nightmare drive home. This does appear to be a general problem with Kosmar but it is the only beef I have with them,.
These apartments are absolutely brilliant. Clean and spacious with 3 balconies on the upper 2 floors. The bottom 2 apartments only have a patio but it is a good size. The owners wife and daughter look after the apartments themselves and were very friendly and helpful. I have only stayed in one lot of apartments in Greece that were better (Zante) and I was quoted £2500 for a family of 4 for 2 weeks for them last year! So Christoferos are excellent value for money.
We went on the Greek night and had a REALLY good evening here. The waiters were all very friendly and were only too happy to join in with us Greek dancing. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. A really nice touch at the end of the evening......one of the waiters asked if we needed a lift back to our apartments (we were staying about a mile away) next thing they got out two cars and drove us back. Greek hospitality at its very best.
We visited from 9th to the 22nd July. Spiros's was one of the best tavernas we found and we returned 4 or 5 times. Kleftico and Moussaka were excellent and served with proper Greek style potatoes and veg and not chips like some of the other places. All the staff were very friendly and always smiling. A must for anyone staying in the area.
We ate here twice one lunch and one evening. The food was excellent! Kleftico and Kokkinista to die for. Staff were all very friendly and the setting on the beach is nice.
We ate here on our "night in town." We were staying in Lourdas. Food was excellent, I had the veal casserole on the waiters recomendation and it was superb, my sons cheese pie starter was a huge slab and not the little frozen, all pastry and no cheese ones served in most places. The waiter was friendly and very helpful. Prices were excellent.
We had lunch here one day while doing the island tour with Kosmar. I had a Greek salad which was excellently prepared my wife and son decided to share a pizza. Lucky they did it was huge and freshly homemade, i tried a slice and it was delicious. The service was good and the waiter friendly, when he served the pizza he apologised for it being a while but explained they made them fresh, we certainly weren't complaining. Only minor down was they charged me extra for paying by credit card.
We ate here on our last day and really wished we had tried it earlier! The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly and helpful. Also the menu told you which items were frozen which most of the other restaurants didn't. PS Try the Kefalonian meat pie here.
