Spiros Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Fred R

We visited Lourdas in May/June and August/September last year and went to Spiros most nights - the food was good, the drinks were good, and the prices were very competitive compared to other restaurants, additionally we always found Spiros to be very welcoming and his staff friendly and courteous, particularly Anna weho also worked at the Eleni. We are going back to Lourdas this May/June and August/September and will have no hesitation in going to Spiros for a good many evenings.

Eleni Studios - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Barbara - we have just returned (12 June) from the Eleni - if you go onto the website you will see a picture gallery - the second image shows the ground floor of the first building where we stayed on the second floor - but at the far end of the picture you will see a door which leads to a room which would be suitable for a wheelchair guest. Moving around the complex the main car parking area is on the same level - the only bit you might have trouble with is getting onto the pool bar/restaurant level as roughly where that picture was taken from there are 2 or 3 steps - I think that you could get up the steps with the wheelchair but I am sure that Kostas or his brother Elias would be more than happy to assist you.See the Eleni website for one of Kostas' sample menus - very good value for 2 courses at 8.99 Euros and puddings are also available.
From the Eleni there are 2 restaurants down the hill and turn left - Spiros and Tricolore although you may have difficulty getting up to the rooftop of Tricolore - less than a minute in a car - although there are lots of other restaurants along the main road and down into Lourdas.
As for the beaches in a car Lourdas (mix of sand and shingle) is about 5 minutes,Trapezaki which is mostly sand is perhaps 10 minutes - there is a taverna and beach bar at Trapezaki and Lourdas has many restaurants to choose from. Then there are a whole host of beaches further afield.
I hope you have a good time.

Lourdas Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Fred R

.

We have stayed at the Eleni twice and the Folies twice - we had no problems with the accommodation and the views from both were spectacular, the Eleni has the advantage of a pool and on site delicious food is available - especially on the evening menu freshly cooked by Kostas. The resort is not rubbish - it is a quiet sleepy little village - although there are two really with Vlahata on the main road and Lourdata on the way to the beach,we found the shops to be OK as regards things to eat and drink although I cannot remember if the milk was full fat cow's milk - it may have been - try Maria's supermarket just down from the Eleni 3.There are plenty of restaurants to choose from although not a lot of bars - certainly no rowdy bars - the Muses down by Lourdata is probably the best and most popular - they have a huge TV screen if you want to follow sport whilst on holiday but you can also watch the smaller tv inside. We return to the Eleni in August and can't wait - also it is great being able to post messages on this board without some bighead over-reacting.

Folies Apartments - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Fred R

We have stayed here twice - in August 2004 and then in August 2005 - we re-booked for 2005 because we enjoyed it so much.It is very quiet and a bit of a walk to the beach and main restaurants up by Vlahata - a car would be useful if you were not fit or did not enjoy walking. There was no pool available - we either went to the Lara Hotel about 10 minutes walk towards the beach or we used the Eleni a good 25 minutes away, all uphill, the Birds Nest studios are a few metres away but the pool was not finished last year - may be this?It gets very dark at night so a torch would be useful for late night returns. This year we are only going to Kefalonia once - in August and the same two weeks as we have stayed at the Folies in the last 2 years - but this time we are going to Eleni. The folies is about 250 metres up a steep hill from the plane tree in Lordata but the views over to Zante are worth it.The self catering facilities we found to be ok - we took a £6 toaster from Tesco - but you get an oven,3 rings, plenty of cutlery and crockery and you control your hot water so never need to have a cold shower unless you want one. No air con but we never found the heat in the evening to spoil our sleep.

Anti Samos Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Fred R

We visited here for the afternoon last year - the beach looks better from the distance - it is very much shingle and large white pebbles - not sand at all and apart from the scenery - green on 3 sides with stunning views over to Ithaka - it is a bit of a let down - may go back this year when we get the car but the road is not for the fainthearted and overall it is probably enough to say you have been there but don't need to go back again too often.

You may find Lourdata - the beach is called Lourdas - a little on the quiet side, however the people are very friendly and the views are really superb. Where are you staying - the Eleni is one of the really good places to stay as it has its own pool and food is available, also supermarkets are only a 10 minute walk away although you either have to climb the hill going (on the main road) or coming back (eg Maria's). The only downside to the Eleni is the trek to the beach - or rather the climb back up the hill from it - if you are a beach lover. Car hire is recommended - not just for the beach but to get around the island and see other really good places - monastery at St Gerassimos,Assos,Xi beach,Petani beach,Sami and Aghia Efimia, Skala,Mellisani Lake,Myrtos beach etc.In Lourdata - the main restaurants are up the hill towards Vlachata -m there are a few places to eat and Muses bar which serves food as well as drinks and has Sky TV if you need to watch sports,or just chill out in the evenings with the smell of Jasmine all around.
You will love it and you will return.

Hi Ann - I hope you and Ray are keeping well - it's a pity we will probably miss each other although we may bump into you at the airport - we are scheduled to leave about 1pm on the Sunday afternoon.
Both Susan and I are keeping well and are looking forward to the hols on 1 July - yes Simon is coming with us - he was 16 on Easter Monday and you would not recognise him now - he like last year will be sharing a room with his friend - last year we had room 11 and they had room 12 - Simon ended up serving behind the bar one evening whilst Ilias watched dvd's (Kostas knows about it).

The new restaurant will be open by the time we get there - it looks great with a beautiful 'view' over Lourdas beach - at least in the early evening. Have you seen Patrick ? if not e mail me if you have changed your e mail address - I'll send the photos anyway.

Take care

Best wishes

Fred

Andromeda Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Fred R          10/10

We ate at Andromeda 4 times during our stay in early July. The starters were good value - I had smoked salmon every time and it was very filling in itself. For main course I had Sea Bream twice,Sea Bass fillet and the chicken - all served with potatoes or rice, carrots and broccoli as well as the usual bread. Food was excellent to taste and always hot and freshly prepared. Accompanied with usual selection of bottled beers and a wide choice of wines including house red and house white.
Excellent views over Lourdas beach (lit up at night) and to Zante.
Prices are very reasonable for what you get - thoroughly recommended.
