We ate here 4 times and never had a bad meal. Have to admit we miss the old style taverna's but times move on. The vegetarian food is excellent. Loved the vegetable kebabs with yogurt. But would have liked the yogurt to have had garlic in and some chilli oil would have given it and extra kick. The waiters in general were very friendly and efficent. They even give my niece a soft toy after a drama of her front tooth coming out. The bread rolls are lovely and the fish pie here is good. The price was more to do with the rate of inflation and the exchange rate on the euro.
Would like to say the food was excellent and would have done if we had not gone back a second time. The first time we had pork steaks, souvlaki and Kefalonian meat stew. All of the meats were cooked to perfection and the meat stew was the best ever. Just like mother makes. Then the second meal was not so good. The pizza was fine but three of us had specials of roast beef and it was a mistake. It tasted salty and out of a tin. The veiw is great though.
Why everyone raves about this place I have no idea. It's one saving grace was that it is the same price band as all the other retaurants. I was bruskley told to sit down by an english woman. Should have walked out then. We were shoved in a dark corner. This is probably because we had three kids with us. The presentation was poncey without the quality to back it up. I think most people think large flat plates equals good food. I ate lamb la mer served with watery rice and a small portion of mixed frozen veg!! It was very salty and too much acid from the lemon in the sauce. Meat was chewy. Everyone in our party commented that the food was over salted. It took 2 litres of water before I felt better. I was really disappointed as I love eating at good restaurants and I think I had been given too much hype about this place.
This was the best out of all the restaurants we went too. The all female waiting staff are efficient with just the right amount of friendly-ness. The bread tastes homemade and is moreish. The pizzas are the best here. What ever is left over you can get a box to take home. Lovely ate cold the next day. The icecream deserts are great and served with a sparkler, which get very hot so don't let the kids pull them out. They are a little bit expensive but a big portion so be a skinflint and share. Try and sit out in the court yard it is so relaxing surrounded by the trees and chirping of the crickets. Watch out for them turning on the water fountain though it's a bit erratic to begin with. Word of warning don't eat the cod and potatoe, no so good. Otherwise I can't fault this place.
We were so pleased with the studios. I have to say we like our bargin holidays and we got total value for money. The view of the mountain and the sea from our balcony was idilic. Aris and Cherie were completely laid back and good company at the bar on the evenings. My teenage son and niece(5) and nephew(10) loved spending time with them. The pool was great but watch out for the jazcuzi as it is a bit of a knicker blaster(hang on to them). The beach seems so near but yet so far. Follow the road for 2km and you will find either Trapekzi or Lourdas beach, depending which way you turned. Either way it is a very hilly walk back. Best tempted late in the evening when it has cooled down. Or head to Lithero beach, the route is down a cliff and a bit of an adventure. Make sure you take plenty of water for this and don't do it if you have a bad heart. The beaches from Lourdas to Lithero to Trapekzi are either pebble or sand. The sea is warm and sandy selves keeps it shallow for a long way out. For two sunbeds and a parasol its 8 euros which can make it very expensive to do daily. Bring your driving licence as you really need to hire a car to get about. The only driver among us refused to drive there so we were limited to what we could do. The trips were expensive and don't book the shopping trip to Argostoli. You can book a cab for 30 euro return or get a bus on a morning for 2 euro return. If you get a car you don't need the over priced trips. For the price of two trips for 2 people you could hire a car for 3 days or more. Inflation and the change to euros made prices in line with the UK which was a bit disapointing. Really disappointed we never got to the BBQ night, only half a one, which my teenage boy enjoyed in true Kevin style and got totally smashed. If you book Aristomenis you really will not be disappointed with the studios. PS. Eleni, Aris and Cherie if you read this we left before we found out how the christening went. Hope it went well. Rory, Antony, Dean, Charlotte, Kerry and Ann~(Grandma) Thanks for a lovely hol.
