Stayed at Porto Skala in August this year. Hotel is excellent. Good food, good service and very clean. We loved the pool area and didn't even have to get up at 6am to put the towels out - no-one bothered with that!! There is a lovely little cove just over the road from the Hotel great for snorkelling, take some bread and watch all the fish. Only down side is the distance from Skala - it is a good 40 minute walk into town which in August was a bit hot!! We used to walk in and get a taxi back which cost 3 Euros. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a peaceful holiday on a beautiful island.
A real fun jeep. Ours was red with a yellow roof we called it Noddys car!! The steering is very very heavy and it doesn't pull very well going up hill but we saw a lot of the island - Mellisani Lake, Myrtos beach, Sami, Lourdas, Lassi etc etc and all in three days. The roads are really quiet even in August. The main roads are like our country roads so you can't go anywhere in a hurry anyway. Probably hire a Jimny next time but this was an experience not to be missed!
Gorgeous beach, really clean, great for snorkelling, mostly shingle so a bit hard on the feet and no good for building sandcastles. Not too busy even in August - we always found a quiet spot.
We visited in August - arrived about 11am before all the coaches so it was very peaceful and cool. A funny Greek man was our guide, he mumbled a funny tune and said 'five thousand years' and 'underground cave'. Worth a look but not a must see sight.
