Symposium
(Restaurants in Skala)

9/10 Jane Stokes (September 06, 2010)

On our third night in the lovely town of Skala we went to Symposium restaurant and were greeted by the joint owner Kerry with a big friendly smile. We were shown to our well presented table and given the menus. The attentive waiter offered to explain any dishes that we didn't understand. After ordering, our food was brought to the table within about 10 minutes. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed despite the slightly dodgy singing from the piano player. The food was tasty except for one dish of Tuna which was thin and dry, the prices were reasonable. There was a lovely view of the sea and Ithika to accompany our meal. The waiters were efficient and happy to help if needed. We went to Symposium on a number of occasions for breakfast and evening meal. I would recommend this restaurant to any visitor to Skala.

We were recommended to Symposium by our rep and were disappointed. The setting is perfect and we were impressed to begin with. Starters were ok but nothing special, mains were very bland. Throughout the whole meal we felt very rushed, we had no sooner put our knives and forks down adn the next course was there, then when we had finished eating and were just finishing our drinks the staff stared at us as if they couldn't wait for us to leave. Very pricey for the standard of food, will not be going here again

. we loved the look of this restaurant & booked thinking this would be the highlight meal of our week in skala, & it was for all the wrong reasons! it was the most expensive & unfriendly place we went to & the food very mediocre, it is a shame because previous posts claim it as delicious food, perhaps the chef has moved on?

DO NOT BE MISLEAD BY THE BEAUTIFUL SETTING!

Symposium looks absolutely fantastic from the outside and the ideal setting for a romantic dinner overlooking the sea. However the service was unfriendly and the food was relatively inedible.
We ordered a mixed Mezze to start and it was passable. We had hardly finished our starters when they arrived with our Main Course, which was a Mixed Fish Platter. The fish was either undercooked or overcooked and was cold with unappetizing vegetables.
The Wine was expensive and the waitstaff refused to accept our constructive criticism.

All in all a very bad experience - Avoid this place - there is no traditional Greek atmosphere.

Terrible! I don't think I have ever been so disappointed in a restaurant in my life. The restaurant looked very nice from the outside, spacious, clean, relaxed. The food was TERRIBLE, my partner and I ordered Meze as a starter. Yes it had taiziki and dolmides, followed by deep fried cheese and ham spring rolls, deep fried feta cheese samosa, and a piece of deep fried cheese?!?!?!?!!?!!?!? The starter and main both arrived within minutes of each other so they were not cooked to order.  And why was there a man playing piano?? Out of context, out of place, bad experience.

Not very impressed. Look's nice with lovely white table cloths a man playing the piano but the food came too quick like less than 5 mins so you know it wasn't cooked fresh. Chicken dried up & calves liver also dry.

Very modern and sophisticated but comfortable too. Had lunch here a gorgeous fresh Italian salad. Excellent service and fantastic view of the beach.

What a fantastic place to eat.  The food is gorgeous and the service is second to none.  It's very reasonably priced and the setting is lovely - there's nothing like looking out onto a moonlit beach whilst you eat your dinner.  Definitely my favourite place to eat in Skala.

We ate here three times this year and to be honest they were the best meals we has all holiday.  The surroundings have been described as 'goldfish bowl like' but this is quite frankly untrue.

The service and standards of the waiting staff are above anything else on offer.  Immediate glass of ice water on seating, clean cutlery with every course and polite, smiling attentive service.

The food is absolutely knockout.  My only gripe is that Christos the piano player/singer sounds a bit like he's lost his goat on the hillside and is in mourning!

A definate 10/10.

Loved this restaurant.  Best setting ie over-looking the beach.  You can book - it gets soo busy especially after 9.  we got a table at 8 and there was only one other couple in there!  Very good service and not hugely expensive bearing in mind setting and overall ambience of restaurant ie music/candles/table settings etc.  Starters fairly expensive but worth it.  Steak was cooked to perfection (with prawns) about 18 euros.  pasta with 4 cheeses only about 9 euros.  Would have def gone back if there longer and probably booked a table for after 9 to get more ambience ie with candles and piano playing.  Simply a restaurant you must visit.

The new restaurant is called 'SYMPOSIUM'.

It is probably the best reaturant in Skala at this moment.  The service is excellent as is the food.

It's a shame Lucky House has gone but this is a more than worthy replacement.
