Fiona Aparthotel - (Accommodation in Lourdas)

Carole W  (12 July 2006)

The Fiona is fairly basic and there is no air conditioning so given the temperatures, and despite having paid for a room for 2 weeks, we found alternative accommodation at our own expense.  (Not much help from Olympic there - although they did switch our room to one in a slightly better position.)  The pool area is quite nice, the snack bar provides good, inexpensive food and the staff were friendly. In my opinion it is preferable to have a car for at least some of the time.   It's quite a march to Lourdas beach although I believe there is a bus.  There is a beach a little closer to the Fiona but I understand this is not very accessible.  We hired a car for 2 weeks and enjoyed touring various parts of the island.  The car also enabled more choice for restaurants.  I would return to Kefalonia, would not book the Fiona.  However, had a lovely holiday.

Crystal Palace Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

We only ate at the Crystal Palace once but the food was good.  It's not in a very exciting position but had a nice evening.  Would go back.

Lorraines Magic Hill - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Carole W

Lovely position on a hill overlooking the sea and the staff extremely friendly.  However, the food really was not up to much and fairly expensive (the cocktails probably bumped it up a bit though!).  Had dinner there, food not great.  Thought we'd try lunch - disaster!  The cocktail bar is very nice and certainly worth a visit if you fancy pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap..

Patritcia - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Carole W  (12 July 2006)

Patricias is in a lovely position on the beach.  (The restaurant itself looks like it's in the process of being built, or demolished, and propped up from behind - you can really appreciate this when looking down from Lorraine's on the hill.  This isn't a criticism it adds to the charm.) They make lots of effort with different colour paint on the walls, cushions and little touches like candles and ribbons on the olive trees at the front of the restaurant etc.  The food itself was very good on every occasion.  The grilled prawns, grilled fish, were excellent. The staff are friendly and really do try.  Their only 'struggle' was making cappuccino - unless pushed to make the proper version with steamed milk, they sometimes opt for espresso with a huge pile of whipped cream.  However, if this is your preference then fine.  It's not particularly cheap but very good.  Would definitely go back.

Klimatis Restaurant - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

Ate here on a couple of occasions.  Nice position on the beach.  The food was quite nice, nothing out of the ordinary.  Beautiful flowers around the restaurant.

Olive Tree - (Restaurants in Lourdas)

We had some really nice meals here.  The food is good and very reasonable.  Would definitely go back.  Not in a very exciting place (just along the roadside).

Olympic Holidays - (Tour Operators in Kefalonia)

Carole W

The outgoing flight was fine.  Came through Customs painlessly though if you are at the back of the queue you will be standing outside the terminal.  Olympic staff were there to meet and greet but we had hired a car independently so did not use their coach.  Upon arriving at the Fiona and deciding the accommodation was not as expected, we asked the rep if she could help us find alternative accommodation, anywhere on the island.  Clearly Olympic were not interested in moving us, apparently the island was heaving and no other rooms used by Olympic were available!  The change of apartment was at our expense which we fully accepted but felt that Olympic could have done more .  The best they could offer (eventually) was a change of room at the Fiona. We booked outselves apartments on Lourdas beach which were great: simple, air conditioned, roomy with a balcony and run by a very nice Greek father and daughter.  The airport is small so as the return flights were delayed it ended up a bit chaotic with limited seating  Keep a book handy.
