Stayed at Villa Mare twice, location is excellent, apartments are very basic but clean, top floors are better, could do with more maid service, towels and bedding only changed once late in the week.It is worth going ther just to be close to Dimitrius beach bar(friendlies guy on the island)definately need a fan in the room after June, although we did have a lizard running around for 3 nights which provided some air conditioning, the apartments behind look a much higher standard but I dont think Kosmar do them.Lourdas beach isnt the prettiest but it has a sort of charm and if us Brits had tougher feet it would be ok.
The Klimatis is one of the best tavernas in Lourdas, the young waitress is very friendly and welcoming the food is very good and inexpensive, and the setting with the open frame roof with the vines is lovely, there may be some posher restaurants up the hill(or mountain)but this would take some beating
Does look superb from the road above, but then so does chessil beach, when you get down there(and the road down isnt that bad?)its not that special.Sea is quite awkward to get in an out because of the large rocks on the bottom and even on a calm day you can feel the undertoe the water is very clean as are most of the beaches on Kef and the sand/shingle is similar to Lourdas beach I think it must be the the location with the limestones cliffs behind that make a lot of people rave about it.
Always eat at the klimatis thought cause we had a car would try somewhere different, food wasnt to special ,prices were on a par with klimatis, service was very good and they had a greek night which was 2 guys who were quite entertaining I think the crowd were just starting to warm to them as we were leaving, the restaurant itself is nicely situated and bigger than it looks from outside.
