This year we will be returning to the Paletino for the third time. It is the most peacful family hotel we have ever stayed at. The new apartments added in 2002 are out of this world. It feels like going home. The staff and Yanis are truely genuine people, who make sure you have all that you need for a perfect holiday. The pool is set at the rear on the hotel in the gardens which also has a small olive grove and is truely idyllic. Whilst the hill into town is steep, there are many different streets and lanes to walk down, with many beautiful greek houses to see on the way!
Last year we visited Petani beach and was walking along the water edge when a series of huge waves came and swept my 6yr old duaghter off her feet and into the sea, luckily my husband caught her. She had been thrown against some of the flat rocks and had cuts and bruises. These waves came from out of no where and I would have to say this is definately not a family beach as the current is very strong and can turn with out any notice. Drive down is fun and there is a lovely taverna, however we will never visit again.
We are going back to the Palatino this year for the 4th time and for the 5th time to Kefalonia. This is the perfect place to take time out and really relax. We stay in the studio chalets at the back of the hotel and they are fantastic. Lixouri itself is a working towm and the entertainment is very quiet. Lixouri is a great base for exploring the island - get a car and get out there. Uae the ferry and go over to Argostoli for the day it is well worth it and last year for the first time we actually saw the infamous turtles in the harbour. Last year we stayed in Lassi and this resort definately caters more for the holiday maker than Lixouri both good and bad. You seem to get more to eat in Lassi and the restaurants put on entertainment however there are very few locals who dine out in Lassi. Once you've been to Kefalonia you will be hooked!
