We spent a week at the Eleni from 30 May until 6 June.We were the last to get dropped off by Kosmar and at 10pm in the evening you literally had not a clue where you were going after the other people had left the coach. No need to worry though,a short walk down THE HILL,turn right and we were shown to our room by Kostas himself. We had a lovely room on the first floor and in the morning the sea view was out of this world - see the photograph 'room with a view' on this site.We did not bother to unpack but went straight over to the pool bar to enjoy a drink (or 2) and have someting to eat - together with the gas heater which Kostas had provided as it was a little chilly. The pool was adequate and there were plenty of sun loungers although the weather could have been a bit better. The nearest restaurants are only 5 minutes down the hill and there is a wider choice a further 5 minutes away.Lourdas beach is pebbly rather than sand and the sea shelves away quite quickly although there are plenty of places to eat/drink.The walk back only takes 30 minutes although you do need to stop a couple of times for a minute or two. Trapezaki beach is sandy although a slightly further walk and with less in the way of facilities.Probably the better option if you hire a car - but why just go there if you have the whole of the island to explore. We used Maria's supermarket for provisions and found this to be quite cheap - not often you go to a shop and come away with a gift ! THis was our first visit to the Ionian isles, let alone to Kefalonia and all I can say is what have we been missing for the last 5 years or so. The Eleni is like staying in the countryside as you are woken up in the morning with the noise of donkeys, chickens, cockerels, sheep and goats,Kostas laughing!! - sorry Kostas!! and the whole of the area is just so peaceful, relaxing you will honestly NOT want to go home. Now the really good news - we are going back to the Eleni on 29 May 2005 for 2 weeks - booked up through Kosmar last Saturday and already looking forward to that. However because Kosmar have changed the return flight time for our Rhodes holiday on 17 July to a Sunday morning flight instead of a Saturday afternoon flight we have switched our July holiday to August and we are going back to Kefalonia although not staying at the Eleni as they are fully booked for the dates we wanted. We are staying further towards the beach but that won't put us off and we plan to visit the Eleni a few days to relax around the pool and enjoy Kostas' cooking.
We spent a week at the Eleni from 30 May - I chose the holiday from the Kosmar website and never regretted a minute of it.The accommodation was adequate for the three of us (13 year old son included) and of course the pool and pool bar add to the facilities. There is plenty of room in the room although we found hanging space and drawers to be a little on the small side so spending 2 weeks may be difficult with extra clothes. However we liked it so much we have already booked up for 2 weeks next year. The views are spectacular - particularly looking back towards and along the mountain and when the sky is clear you get tremendous views of Zante. We never made use of the air conditioning but this must be of great benefit during the height of summer.
When we were there Kostas was having talks with Kosmar about next year and just before we left the agreement with Kosmar was concluded - hence we have booked up for next year, however Kostas was talking to Olympic about the Eleni 3 for this year and you can get booked up with Olympic - although from the website (I did not ask Kostas at the time) the studios only accommodate 2 people.Kostas did say that Olympic would be offering 'fairly cheap' holidays although when I looked at 2 weeks in August this year the price was £465 per adult - so Kostas if you read this you can do the maths to see what Olympic are making on the deal.By the way don't be put off when you get dropped off at the top of the hill after all of the other holidaymakers have been dropped off - you seem to wind away from the resort centre for a few minutes but actually you are only a few minutes walk from where most of the restaurants are - and the walk back up the hill on an evening after you have dined out is not so bad after all.
