This seemed like the best place to stay, although it is outside of Skala we really liked it, we didn't want to be too near everything and on top of the resort. Probably best to hire a small car from the airport for the duration (we will do this next time) to make the most of getting about, unless you like just lazying by the pool! But we went off to beaches and drove around the island. It is very modern, very clean, lovely and cool, lovely views, friendly staff and good facilities. I couldn't believe there was a good hairdryer in the bathroom and the bed was so comfortable both my boyfriend and I miss it! We will definitely return and stay here no doubt about it, we just would book direct and not book with Thomson again!!

I would strongly recommend this hotel to anybody going to Kefalonia. We have returned this week after a week away (with FirstChoice) and were very impressed with everything at the Asteris. Ideal situation (Skala about 2 minute drive away - being out of the way was quite nice and being slightly away from the resort and up a hill provided a noticable temperature difference after the sun had gone down with Skala being almost too warm in the evenings), excellent room (we had Studio Flat - very spacious) and even though I nearly chose somewhere with a shorter transfer time, I'm glad I didn't as it didn't take as long as I thought it would - with the air-conditioned buses from the airport taking you along a nice route, it really felt no hassle. Our room was cleaned daily to a high standard, all of the staff there were very friendly and helpful. Clean and tidy environment, excellent pool and great bar (and staff!). Gutted we didn't make the effort to go to the BBQ on Monday - maybe next year!
I really struggled on deciding where to stay in Kefalonia and remember looking at this website for hours and hours at the different resorts and accomodations, but know by far we made the best choice.
If you are looking for a quiet week away with the possibility of hiring a car, even for a few days, then I would strongly recommend this hotel.
The hotels dog is great too!
[May as well put a few other things on this bit as I know I looked predominantley at the hotel/apartment guides - but the Glass Bottom Boat done through our rep (not the one in Skala) was fantastic! The underground lake at Messiani/Melissiani (?!) is worth a look and the beach near Sami, although has big pebbles, is rather nice too! Best sand beach was the one we were took to on the glass bottom boat trip, right next to the airport which was no bother as you just watched the 2 or 3 planes that land in the afternoons coming right in whilst relaxing on a beautiful beach and waving at the passengers!]
Roll on next year!
Enjoy! ![]() | ||||||||||

Asteris. What can I say?. The best place we have ever stayed in in Greece. Our 8th trip to Skala our first to the Asteris. From the minute we arived the hospatality was second to none. The rooms were massive with views right over Skala, as far as the mainland and Zakynthos. Had a car for 2 weeks from the airport which I think is a must unless you like sitting round the pool all day everyday. Nothing bad in that always a spare sunbed and the pool was never crowded.Dont miss BBQ night but make sure you eat very lightly through the day as the food is piled high on your plate. My 6 year old managed it just.Already booked for next year, cant wait

Have just returned from Asteris. We were really impressed. Costas and his team do a great job of making guests feel at home without being over bearing. I would suggest if you are fortunate enough to be visiting the Asteris you make an early visit to Poros , slightly further than Skala but a delightful little port with many fine eating places and a bank with cash machine.
I agree with others car hire is almost essential. We were delighted with the apartment and service. The air con is a must in both apartment and car.
We travelled with Thompsons and found the service they provided to be of a high standard.
Well done Costas and all at the Asteris.

| Hi, we are also staying in the Asteris this July, we normally stay in skala village. However my parents stayed at the asteris last year and we went to visit them. The hotel is one of the best in Skala with a beautiful pool. Skala village is lovely with a great long beach. The restaurants are all very good (of course there are some that you would not go back too!!). Apostolis at the top of the high street, turn right at the ocean view hotel, is good basic greek food at great price, we try and eat there most nights. The rooms are top quality with TV and air con as standard (no local charges), bar snacks and bar prices very reasonable and a weekly bbq night / greek night. Main problem with Asteris is it is on the main road form skala to poros, the road is not busy (remember it's Kefalonia!) but it would be a long walk or a 5 euro taxi ride to village. We have hired a car for the 2 weeks to accomadate this. Over the last 10 years we have worked our way around most of the restaurants and can list the pros and cons of all. One adventure not to miss is a trip to old skala, Jean (english) works at the asteris and has produced a guiidebook and sometimes does guided tours. Need to get up there early in July though. If you are interested in car hire visit Greekstones website, they are based in skala and are excellent. We arrive on the 19th of July so if you are there then just give us a shout, you can't miss us (2 white women and a black 4 yr old)!! | |

| My husband and I are staying at the Asteris in June this year and would like to know how far to the nearest beach, is it a comfortable walk into Scala, are there any other villages also the coast that we could walk to, or do you need a car daily? Thinking about the accomodation how many floor, are the balconies a good size, are there any tucked round the back, or does everyone get a nice view of Scala and are they in a sunny position. None of the previous report seemed to say much about the accomodation. Lets have your views please. |
