Liana Apartments - (Accommodation in Skala)

Alan P

Perfect location on the edge of town. The apartments are as advertised in the brochure - very basic but they have all you need providing you don't really want to cook. If you are on an upper floor they do have a side sea view down the main street. Only one complaint the maid is a little stinfey with the towels

Day trip to Ithaca - (Kefalonia Excursions)

Alan P

Shop around for a good deal. We went with Kavvadas which was only 30 euros and the boat was nearly empty which made for a blisful day. They cruise from Poros to Kioni and then to Vathi for lunch and then stop at this beautiful inlet for swimming on the way back. If you want to see more of the island book with Etam but they are more expensive

Island Tour by coach - (Kefalonia Excursions)

Alan P

Check out which day you want to go and then look which locations they visit as they do differ but all seem to go to the caves and the lake. It's a great way to see the island if you haven't hired a car but it is quite pressured.

Assos - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Alan P

I stayed here on my first visit and it is a stunningly beautiful place. If you have a car come here for the sunset at the medieval castle which is breathtaking and you can drive part of the way up as it is a long hike but worth it. Quite magic as the sun sets and the sound of goat bells tinkling aound as they leap across the rocks

Melissani Lake - (Places to Visit in Kefalonia)

Alan P

Picture postcard beautiful and an experience to remember. The boat trip is brief and they expect to be tipped but still worth the money. There can be quite long queues at peak times when the sun is directly overhead but it's the best time to see it and worth the wait

Skala Beach - (Beaches in Kefalonia)

Alan P

The beach is massive and the nicest part is at the right hand end beyond the Sunrise where it is quieter and the shingle is very fine. It does shelve very steeply if you are not a confident swimmer and is not really suitable for small children. If none of that is an issue it is glorious and crystal clear with different bars to choose from

Skala Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Alan P

Skala manges to be a resort without going over the top. It is very chilled but there is plenty of everything. It is very British but not in a grungey way. The bars don't stay open very late but that's not what you go to Kefalonia for any way. If you want to go clubbing there is a club on the Poros road but you need transport to get back.

Olympic Holidays - (Tour Operators in Kefalonia)

Alan P

Booked the holiday on the net with a good saving on the brochure price which made it even better value. The reps were very helpful without being intrusive and the transfers were swiftly and efficiently done. We flew on their own airline Excel Air which was on time and the in flight service is good. The food is vile but what else is new! Olympic seem to be the cheapest and on this experience I couldn't fault them. The brochure does not lie or raise expectations; if anything they sell themselves a little short

Sta Vento - (Bars in Skala)

Alan P  (18 September 2002)

This is a lovely bar to the right hand of the beach next to the Sunrise. It is very different in style to the others with a much more modern style. They play great ambient music and seems to be more popular with locals than tourists. The food is somewhat limited and erratic but what is offered is good. Charming service and the drinks are ice cold served in iced glasses. A great place to escape from the sun for a cool drink
