Skala Resort - (Resorts in Kefalonia)

Claire B

Just come back from a great holiday in Skala, we have an 8 year old daughter, and it was pitched just at the right level for us, plenty of tavenas and bars, all child friendly and a large, beautiful sandy/small shingle beach with warm sea, excellent for swimming and snorkeling, surrounded by pine trees. there is a small square with a fountain that all the local children gather at, and let other children join in their football games. There is also play areas, swings, monkey bars and slides, all quite safe, whilst they play you can watch having a drink.

The shops and supermarkets covered all the basic needs, with a few souvenier shops for treats to take home. Everyone was warm and welcoming, will definetely be going again!.

Marietta Studios - (Accommodation in Skala)

Claire B

Just come back from staying at the Marietta Apartments in Skala. We were self catering and had a large 3 bedded room with a balcony over looking the apartmenys below and the hills in the distance. The room had a fridge and two ringstove , clean cutlery and china, no toaster, grill or kettle, we made do with the pans we had, to make drinks.
There is no A/C but you can hire a fan, although I thought a litttle over priced. On recommendations made on this site I took earplugs and managed to get sleep, there are dogs barking, goat bells clanging and cockeral crowing, but thats greece, its the way it is, its it character.
Everything is kept clean and tidy, with lovely scented gardens and a pool, which our daughter loved to go into after a day on the beach, everyone was very friendly and the rep does not keep you long at the welcome meeting.
Perfect for those that have children.

We really liked it here, esp for breakfast they have a specific breakfast menu and that almost anything you would want for breakfast on it, freshly squeezed orange juice, as much freshly brewed coffee that you can drink and the luxury of a fresh breeze and to read a newspaper, Very friendly staff without being overbearing.

Galera - (Restaurants in Skala)

This was our favourite tavena, it was quiet, off the main street and had a good calm atmosphere. They have a chidrens menu, which is made of what it says and chidrens cocktails to make them feel grown up, its lovely and cool as we ate up on the balcony area. Highly recommend the souvlaki's that come with pitta breads dips and salad, also the greek meze (no starters needed).

Everyone here was very attentive, with water given automatically as you sit done, had a couple of lovely pasta dishes, and my daughter had a special Icecream sundae, it is very poular here with people reserving their tables in advance.

La Luna - (Restaurants in Skala)

It was very busy when we sat down, and the staff seemed quite stressed, forgetting to offer us drinks. I had a pasta dish with seafood, which tasted rather stale, I gave up eating the seafood as didnt want to take the risk.

Mi Abeli Restaurant - (Restaurants in Skala)

Ate here a couple of time, and were pleased with the quality of food presented, it gets very busy here, but all the staff remain friendly even under that pressure.

Milos Beach Bar - (Bars in Skala)

Claire B

We really liked it here it is only open for breakfast and lunch and closes late afternoon, the staff are so friendly here and very hardworking, and made a real fuss over my daughter who practised some greek on them, the salads are delicious, esp the greek salad and tuna salad (huge). The beers are really good value and there is no rush to leave the table. On our last day the owner offered us complimentary beers, it is a shame they dont open in the evening as I think it would be a lovely quiet spot to have a romatic meal.

Socrates - (Restaurants in Skala)

A lovely traditional Taverna, we sat under the grapevine and enjoyed the traditinal greek special dishes offered and of course a jug of the red house wine. The atmosphere was calm and friendly and my 8 year daughter praised them on the best homemade burger ever eaten!!!
I believe that once the apartments around it are built, it will be difficult to get into it due to the good cooking and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Ta Pitharia - (Restaurants in Skala)

This taverna is very popular with people reserving tables in adavance. We had a couple of meals here and enjoyed the olive paste, garlic butter and olive oil dip given to eat with your bread. We tried the kefalonia meat pie and mousaka (served in a clay pot) both great. Only down side is that it dosnt seem to get a lot of breeze,  on the tables away from the edge of the restuarant, which this does not reflect on the dishes and service at all.

Gourgouris Grill - (Restaurants in Skala)

A typical simple taverna set in a quiet side street. We sat in the garden which was surrounded by beautiful rose bushes, it is incredibly cheap here, and the food is fabulous, highly recommend the pork cooked on the grill, stuffed with bacon, cheese and peppers, and of course the souvlaki, children are most welcome and the owner is very friendly.

Greekstones - (Car Rental in Kefalonia)

Claire B

This is by far the best company to hire from and very popular, I suggest that if you do intend to hire a car, do it with a couple of days of arriving, as it gets very booked up. what we like about hiring from here that everything was included, nothing hidden or unsaid, which could make you worry. We were given a map and told where the best spots to go which was very usful, on returning the car, it wasnt looked at suspiciously, they were glad that we enjoyed our travels around, and continued to wave and say hello as we walked by till the ned of our holiday.
Highly recommend.

Island Tour by coach - (Kefalonia Excursions)

Claire B

We did this tour with Panem and were not disapointed. The rep really knew her stuff and informed us of the islands history, legends bird and animal life and was happy to answer any questions asked. for 23 euro's we visted the robola vineyards weher we bought some robola wime(it travels well as we have drank a bottle tonight), the Drogarti caves, the melissani lake, through Sami and onto Fiskado (Lunch is expensive here, howevere the bakery's have some fantasic offerings) then onto Assos and the view point for Mytos Beach, it is a full on day laving at 8am returning at 5.45 but it really is worth it to learn more about this wonderful Island.
