I am thinking of staying at the Lighthouse apartments in Katelios next year.Is there anyone that can recommend these apartments.

Helen 1

Stayed at the Mare Monte and really enjoyed this holiday!

Accomodation is basic but exactly what we wanted.

Didn't like the Nemesis Bar much- if we want St George's flag, wide screen TV and blaring music we will go to Brighton Beach!

In all the village is great and hope it does not fall prey to too much commercial developments as Skala should satisfy the needs of those who prefer that kind of thing!

Carol B

we just came back from katelios all we can say is it was everything we could have wished for .The local's were all very friendly in the resort and in the local shops and restaraunts . We could not have asked for better weather for the two weeks we were there, we came home with lovely tans. Hello to Alan + Kirsty and Family hope the rest of your holiday was A-ok. caz + stu. ps the foto is on here somewhere. later.

Sandra L

Hello Denise I have tried to email you but no luck. Arrive on Sunday can't wait to see everyone

Bye see you soon

Sandra L

It is a great quiet resort and we loved it. We stayed at the Mare Monte which are very basic but its just a place to rest your head so thats fine by us.

Denise, I have emailed you and Nico but got no reply so will see you on Monday 13th September as we are coming back.(have tried both your email addresses) Can't wait to see you all. Look forward to your great food and company.

Check your email at Nemesis to see who this is!!!! :-)

Just returned from a wonderful relaxing 2 weeks holiday. Stayed at Katelios Studios which were basic, but clean with friendly helpful and caring owners. The pool was excellent and never over crowded. Only real concern was the occaisional high speed car passing on the road (the only straight flat road on the island?). All tavernas and bars good.
Hired a car for 1 week and toured around. Magnificent scenery, easily the best greek island we have visited. The kids enjoyed all aspects, beaches, short walks around the villages and the days by the pool. Certainly need a car to see the best parts. Don't miss Assos, Avithos beach, Livithos area and the Drograti Caves, but everywhere is good!!
One of the most restful holidays we have had. Certainly not for the nightclubers!

Mary M

Hi Denise, many thanks for your reply, Katelios sounds lovely and we intend to hire a car for a few days to see the sights of the island - roll on September 14th, and hopefully see u there!

Denise T

hi mary, i'm writing from the nemesis bar. all i can say about katelios resort is that it is so small that in one hour of walking you have seen everything, 15 minutes of chatting you've learned all you need. everyone is friendly and helpful. i know for sure that you and your husband will love it here. see you when you get here!

We have just returned from the Efrosini Village in Katelios as a party of 12 including children.
We had a fantastic time, the accomodation, air conditioning and bar all excellent.
2 weeks of peaceful tranquility with something to do for everyone.
We hired 3 cars and travelled the island. can honestly say it is one of the most beautiful islands we have been to with excellent beaches, lovely people and most things very reasonably priced.
The accomodation is comfortable but best of all are the people who run it. Fon, Jenny and George could'nt have been better hosts with many late nights spent drinking in the well stocked bar. Fon has a better CD collection than Virgin Megastores covering all people's tastes.
The Katelios Taverna down at the beach is by far the best food (especially the Calamari) and has the best service especially Sadie who couldn't have been more friendly. Good luck with the Wedding in October.
We will certainly be back one day, hopefully they will not commecialise Katelios too much as this is what gives it it's charm.
Thank you for 2 wonderful weeks.

The Lane family and the Mace Family.

Mary M

Can anybody help? My husband and I are going to Katelios in September, and staying at the Katelios Studios, any info about the resort and the studios would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

H S

We accidentally spent 2 nights in Katelios, (we then moved to Lassi as Katelios was too quiet for us) and I thought I would just add a view with a different perspective. Katelios is VERY quiet. On the main drag there are about 6 restaurants all serving the same thing, and one bar, which was very nice, right on the beach and a lovely guy mixing the drinks. But if I had stayed there 2 weeks I would have been bored silly. This is not a resort to go to if you are not going to hire a car to enable you to go off and do something during the day, there is nothing to do in the resort day or evening, the ‘public’ swimming pools are plentiful and very nice, and you will easily find a sun bathing spot. We didn’t go to the beach, but the beach the main drag is on wasn’t much. Basically Katelios has charm, but it is VERY quiet, and is basically shut about midnight.

Ronald L

We stayed at the Efrosini Village for two weeks. It is one of the best holidays on
Kefalonia we have ever had. There were eight of us (me, Bernie & the kids) divided
into three chalets. All had free aircon (it has to be turned off when rooms are empty)
which was a nice bonus. The rooms are nice and clean with fresh linen and towels
twice a week. The pool bar serves very good snack meals and drinks which are
available all day/night. The pool is immaculately clean and brilliant for kids. Fon
(pronounced) and Jenny run the bar & pool and work very hard to ensure that you
have a great time. Fon is a mine of information about the island, so if you want to
know where to find that secluded cove, ask him. I would recommend a car for getting
about to other areas. The beach is nice & clean and is only a kilometer away and is
fairly quiet. lots of restaraunts on the sea-front. All in all, George (the owner) and his
staff gave us a great holiday. Seriously good for families and couples alike.

Cathryn D

We have just spent 2 very restful weeks at the Eryphilli Studios. Nikos the owner personally runs the bar all day and evening and prepares delicious bar food.He makes everyone feel very comfortable and there is a great friendly atmosphere in the beach bar which is open to very late. Hope to return next year fot another of his Kefalonian baguettes! Off to support Greece in the football now!!

John P

Has anyone got any info on Efrosini Apartments ie. photos or general comments. We
have stayed at lourdas in the past and this is our first time to katelios.

Vik

RE: Irene apartments - if you cant get rooms 7 or 8 - the basement is great - very spacious and Dimitri kept bringing us fresh oranges in the mornings !!

Vik

We had a blissful 2 weeks staying in Katelios at the beginning of June and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to really relax. We had a couple of nights through in Scala, but our best evening were spent in Katelios with new friends !!
Vik, Sue and Kate

Tony F

We have been to Katelios many times and have always enjoyed staying at the Irene apartments. We are due to go again for 2 weeks on 24th June. Can anyone tell me if you can still hire electric fans from Marinos? Anyone booking for the Irene should reqest either room 7 or room 8 because the 360degree views from both are magnificent.

We had a very peaceful, chilled out holiday in Katelios. Although we went there in May- the eather was not too bad. We came back with healthy tans, largely due to all the walking we did. We have been to kef before but really enjoyed our time in Katelios as we love fish. The tavernas were great- especially Katelios and Ostria.

Stayed at the efrosini- i the old wing which gets more sun than the newly built rooms. The pool was clean and quiet, although a bit cold.Phon at efrosini had a fab selection of music which we listened to every evening with our newly made friends at the bar. The drinks at the hotel bar were much cheaper than in town. We went to lourdata beach which is beautifully sandy and more scenic than the one at Katelios.
Big heelo to Elias at the katelios taverna- you have the best calamari in Kef.

Annie

Annie N

We spent 18-25 May at the wonderful efrosini appartments. We were lucky because our room ( with no adjoining walls) was in the old block which got sun all day. The views of the sea from one side of the balcony and the mountains from the other were quite outstanding.

Phon and Ginny looked after us well. Phon's CD collection is diverse. I never thought that I would be listening to Nick Cave in Katelios! The pool was quiet and the room was large and clean. We even had a sandwich toaster and an electric kettle!. The walk to the beach was 10 mins long and you need a torch for those late evening returns. The fish tavernas were great- My husband and I particularly liked the Katelios taverna (best place for calamari)where Elias works. he is a warm, genuine guy. We also liked the blue sea and the very economical Ostria. The only taverna we did not like was the Persa which is not far from efrosini, on the road out of Katelios.

We made some nice friends- Hi Ivy, Debbie, Sue, Bob, Helen, Siebe, Liz and Ken.

Zena H

when we booked it was just by chance, but after a week there and getting to know the locals we are now hooked. It is somewhere we feel it is safe to take my partners two 7yr olds, and even last year ( the second visit)we had some stick from the local bar owners for not taking them, The people are so very nice and there is nothing they wont do for you. Life is very basic and advice would be to take a fan than you can use in your room as most rooms do not have air con. For a nothing to do but relax and read its very very good. Most resort blocks have an exchange table for things like books, washing up liquid ect.
The last thing is you can never get lost on the island, all roads lead to Agostoli.

I stayed in the Mare Monte appartments, for a fortnight, in early May 2003. My apartment was a good size, well equiped and was excellent value for money. Plus, I was allowed to use any three of the surrounding swimming pools and always received a warm welcome at all of them. I liked Katelios because it is ideal if you are interested in wildlife, plants/flowers, photography and walking. The owner of Mare Monte, Jerry, along with his wife were very helpful and friendly. Also, even in early May, you can get at least one local bus per day from Katelios and back to: Argostoli, Scala, Poros and Fiskardo. The residents of and visitors to Katelios were very friendly and as a woman travelling on my own I always felt safe and relaxed, although I did stick out slightly, which, although not a problem for the locals, did bring me unwanted attention from a few male holiday makers. Apparently a woman travelling on her own is still a 'novelty' to some British men, who, on a few occassions were quite a nuisance - perhaps they'd had too much sun! The local shops had everything I needed and for a small resort there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Katelios. My favourite was Persa's Taverna, especially the Kefalonian pie!

Bud B

i dont know if your friend must laugh wiht that or to be ungry because its not good joke for him.anyway you know him better so he must laugh with that.im sure i ll meet you two when you ll come to the paradise-katelios.lets enjoy life and have many drinks all together see you soon xx

Amy L

Reply to Bud Boy: thank you for the kind note. I was only joking about my travelling companion last year. I didn't expect anyone to respond. I was expecting him to visit the site, read it, and laugh.

We're both returning this year as we both thoroughly enjoyed place where we stayed and the island.

Look forward to seeing you then.
xx

Bud B

HELLO FROM KATELIOS WE WAITING ALL OF YOU BACK TO PARADISE KISSES XXXX

Bud B

i reply this to Amy Leather.the only i want to is that i remember the guy you have with u when you come to katelios.i think next time is better to come alone here.As you said,if i remeber well, life is too short to spend her around and we must enjoy every moment of her.so,i think is better to enjoy life here we are the best,we know the way better to make people happy and smiling.after all that we waiting to see u around this summer to katelios.all the best to you!!!!!

Gary B

can anybody tell us about the facilities at the Hercules Apartments at Katelios, Kefalonia.
Is there a fridge? etc.

Amy L

Visited Katelios last year for the first time. Thought it to be a truly fantastic place, accommodation was spot on, the weather and the people were brilliant. Unfortunately i went with a guy i hadn't been seeing very long and he turned out to be a total nightmare. All he did was drink, sleep, eat and swear. I didn't know what to do with myself.

There isn't a great deal to do in Katelios so don't go if you think you might end up in the same situation as i did. Never mind, i'm going back this year and i'm hopeful things will be difference.

Claire L

I GO TO KATELIOS EVERY YEAR AND I THINK ITS GREAT. THE PEOPLE ARE TOP TO GET ALONG WITH.TTHE BEACH AND RESTAURANTS ARE ALL REALLY NICE THE GREEK FOOD MMMMM ESPECIALLY TAZIKI THAT IZ WELL NICE.

Colin D

spent a week in katelios at the efrosini with my girlfiend, the efrosini was very hospitable and the owners charming, friendly and very helpful. katelios was fantastic ie. laid back, cracking weather, and the mythos in the beach hut bar was a real thirst breaker. The locals were friendly and the place has a certain feel of peace about it, definitely recommend the place for resting and recharging the batteries.

Katerina B

HI i am Originally freom Kefalonia but the last for years i am living in Australia.I used to live in a small village 20 minutes away from Katelios up on the mountain and all my childhood i used to go there for swimming.I can make any coment for Katelios because i would not be objective but i want to tell one thing for all of you that you are going back to Kefalonia again. My father is working in the council in charge of the water and i can say to you that there is no need to buy bottled water . The water in Kefalonia is good and safe to drink exept from Argostoli so dont spend money for bottled water spend them somewhere else. Thnk you Katerina. And i hope you all like our place

Sarah B

We had the most relaxed holiday ever in this most unspoilt beautiful resort. We were slightly aprehensive when we first arrived but found our studio apartment at the Doumas basic but clean and the locals very friendly. We hired a speed boat every day and found our own private beaches which were beautiful and untouched and sunbathed un til afternoon and then by late afternoon we headed back to Katelios to have a lovely meal in one of the many beach side restuarants the food very nice offering a wide variety, we hired a moped from Venus and as afternoon fell we set off and explored the beautiful island finding remote villages untouched by tourism and oozing with history the scenery breathtaking. By nightfall we headed back to the many bars and found the locals a treat to talk to the cocktails delicious. When the time came to go back home we felt so sad the holiday had come to an end. If you want peace and tranquility then this is the place for you, an area of outstanding natural beauty unspoilt by tourism, food and drink all you require and relaxation the key point then this is the place for you we loved it, plenty to do if you hire transport but if not secluded relaxed and low key.

Kerrie G

We totally agree about Nemesis bar!Denise makes you so welcome - But watch out how many Metaxas you are knocking back while you are enjoying yourself too much!!We did so much laughingand thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there!
Katelios is a very unspoilt, bolthole of a place if you want a peaceful, relaxing, getaway from it all holiday. Its very villagey and sleepy - Beach is mostly pebbles, seaweed and little patches of sand but a lovely place to chill out. We liked the walk around the rocks towards Scala (Not for those less agile on their feet though!)- A great place to check out all the amazing flora, fauna and stunning scenery. Some great pools to use and sunbathe round so it didnt matter so much about the beach! Not a great place for the shopaholic but we managed to buy all the gifts we wanted just from the few shops on offer. Great selection of restaurants.Ideal place for couples who just want to lie in the sun all day relaxing then go for a romantic, good quality meal in the evening - And the local wine is FAB!

Sue +

Having just returned from my third visit to KateliosI can highly reccommend Nemesis music bar the very best place to be in the village. Your hosts Denise & Nikos are truely lovely people for whom no request can be too small. Denise is a lady with a big personallity really great fun and Nikos has great talant both behind the bar and in the kitchen. If your looking for excitment then ask Denise's husband, Kostas to dance for you - his greek dancing is something not to be missed! But the real attraction is the music provided by SPIROS their excellent DJ who has superb taste in music and will keep you entertained all night with his discs - just make a request this man really knows his music, dance and club mixes are his speciallity. But ladies just look - DONT TOUCH! He is spoken for!!

Natalie T

Michelle Tegerdine - when in October are you going?? I'm flying out next
Thursday (16th)...so will try and post some info for you, unless we're there at
the same time!! Natalie

Julie

I was in Katelios in July.I really enjoyed my holidays there. The weather was beautiful but the beach wasn't so good so I spent most of the time by the pool. There were 5 or 6 tavernas with really good food and few bars.I really enjoyed going at Nemesis, very good bar but I have to agree with Carol Jones about the dj,they need someome else for sure.He was cute, I really like him but I think Carol was right.I already booked for next June 13th.

Just got back from Katelios. Thought a few updates on info I have gleaned from this site might be useful. There are now 4 shops, 2 minimarkets, a gift shop and a joss-stick & head massage place. There is also now 1 taxi, which you get by knocking on the guys door (ask them at the Elliniko restaurant how this works). We used the local buses and found them fine. The timetable is pinned up at the bus stop by the kiosk and the woman in there also knows the time if you cant work it out. Our rep advised us against using the bus (but as she is selling trips this is to be expected) she said they were unreliable and not air conditioned. In fact they ran perfectly to time and were air conditioned. We went all the way to Fiskardo (2 1/2 hours) and it was great-we really wanted to go there but the only trip which included Fiskardo gave you only two hours there and also included places we had already visited. We arrived at 11.45 and the bus back is at 4.30. Fiskardo is really worth a visit-its a up-market place by Greek standards and we had a great time watching the boats pull in for lunch. It was also considerably cheaper to use the local bus! (6 Euros each way) We did have to change bus, but this worked out fine. We also went to Skala on the bus and returned by taxi which was 13 Euros. More shops and bars etc there if you want them. Overall, part from the beach which was very rocky we loved Katelios.

Michelle T

We are visiting Kefalonia at the end of October 2003 and will be staying at the Doumas apartments in Katelios. Are all the restaurants/taverna/shops open this late in the season and what can we expect from the weather.

Terry W

YOU CANT GET LOST IN KAFALONIA THERE ARE NOT MANY ROADS JUST ASK A TAXI DRIVER OUT SIDE THE AIRPORT. DONT WORRY.

Barbara P

Does anyone know directions from the Airport to Doumas Apartments in Katelios, please. We are travelling there late September and don't want to get lost!! Thankyou.

Lori

Hi Cindy The fishing part was destroyed in quake sadly I am told.
I agree about the tavernas being too touristy. We had no mossies at all which was a surprise .. they must have all been with you Cindy...

Cindy E

Katelios, a traditional fishing port - it is not. There were fishing boats but the main part of the village consisted of eating places, of which we tried four of them (we both felt they pandered to the European taste too much). From the various building sites and plots of land for sale it is apparent that Katelios is under expansion. My partner and I stayed at the Katelios Studios, which we were both disappointed with; the room was not well maintained eg kitchen cupboard hanging on a hinge amongst other things;the view from the balcony consisted of a house under construction (100 m away) - work usually started about 8.00 am; and generally it was noisy. Having said that, the pool area was good. We are used to staying in hostels when away so are used to basic accommodation - therefore I don't feel I am being unreasonable in my criticism. It has to be said some people were happy with the accommodation. We were plagued by mosquitoes during the night even with mosi guard on - so be warned (not every body suffered though). In case anyone reading this is unaware of this point (as we weren't)- toilet paper is to be put in bins not the loo(you get used to it, honest). Also the local tap water is very palatable we didn't buy bottled water when we realised this. The local beach is OK but the next beach (towards Scala)is better. We hired a Yamaha 125 trail bike for 4 days - this was the best part of the holiday. We rode without helmets and in shorts (risky I know) but compared to how we ride at home all togged up, the freedom was brillant and we travelled around the island which I thought was beautiful and there are some fantastic beaches.

Lori

ok so i need an hour to write about our two weeks in katelios.
medusa good, clean, two loos in appt which was good and a sea view. the front room did look over the taverna and the kids moaned about the noise. it was in keeping though and when you are staying above a taverna to be expected. food there good by the way and kind folk.
sadly we were woken up by very antisocial family behind us in the appts shouting each night as they came in. parents as bad as the kids but thats not the tavernas fault.
we found all much dearer than we did corfu. even taking into account the low £. was a shock and lidl in argostaoli was dearer than home for many things.
venus car hire ok but the brakes were very worn and went on us which was scarey.40km with no front brake ... no fun. did call company but no help as ' garage closed now' . hubby took wheel off to look and no shoes left on brake at all.in the am they fixed it fast but still let us drive home with none the night it went.
shops in katelios ok but not much there.
next beach over karminia . is amazing and blue bits of ribbon do guide over the rocks. but i did find it p***kly throuh the bushes. worth it though sandy and warm water . lovely.the beach by village just a bit dirty.
did not like the taverna at end (elli something. lots of lights past beach bar.) meze poor and a bit anglo for me why go away if you want oukka pies?..........
the garden taverna was good. friendly. giros pita 1. 60 euro. but sadly only found that at end of holiday.
hubby and son climbed the mountain. long haul but they thought is well worth it.
loved many places and beaches. would prefer not aug next as gather it is the busiet. now seems a good time as was just getting quiet as we left.noticed that there is a lot of construction in katelios. they put a pavement down the whole valley while we were there and lots of buildings going up. we will not know it next time we go.
none of the towns big and we liked them all. i liked sami as a busy port. antisamos a lovely beach but getting busy. good swimming there as deep and clear to see the fish.
manos good loved the trip called lazy eliza. relaxed and well run by a local who was interesting and pleasant.
sadly we found a few folk not so pleasant and had the food thrown on the conveyer at a big supermkt. maybe they are just sick of us tourists. and the corelli thing. got me thnking ...they have been invaded again............

Chris

as there is no bank in this area i used a visa card to get cash back at one of the two shops
i do hope you have a great time there

Sam B

I am going to Filoxenia apartments for two weeks and am a little worried having seen one very negative report. Has anyone else got anything to add?

Tony H

Chris, did you use your visa card to get cash at the mini-market?

Chris

TONY

I USED A VISA CARD WITH NO PROBLEM. WE HAD A GREAT TIME THERE SOME OF THE RESTAURANTS DID EXCEPT VISA BUT A LOT PROFFERED CASH AND I DO MEAN A LOT

Pete A

We had a fantastic two weeks recently in Katelios. We stayed at the Medusa and the rooms were excellent, cleaned three times a week - bed linen changed and fresh towels - If I have a criticism it's that the room had no air-conditioning or fan (the heat at night was uncomfortable). We hired a car for a week and went everywhere on the island, it truly is a wonderful place. If you are looking for that getaway holiday then katelios is the place for you.

Tony H

Can anyone tell me which major cards I can use to get money back in the mini market in Katelios?
I normally just take some cash and use the hole in the wall.

Chris

there is no bank in katelios. That is not a problem though as the car rental changes travellers cheques, and the mini market down the road give you cash back with well know cards

as you walk down and on to your right follow the rubble road past the taverners you will pass a small fresh water pond with ducks, geese and fresh water fish. Carry on down the road there is a beach there at first glims it does not look much but i thought it was very nice. you can also hire a boat for the day to get to beaches that are off limets to a car.

Mark C

To Leonie
Katelios is very quite indeed. The pace of life is very, very relaxing. If you want a "do nothing" full chill out holiday then Katelios is ideal. There's one taxi, two shops & enough restaurants to last at least two weeks.Everybody makes you feel very welcome. The beach is garbage, but there are lots of uncrowded pools, where alcomers are welcome(Galini appts is the best one)It is definitely a 4 book holiday. If mobile try Skala(7k away)(13 euros in a taxi)plus there's a good beach half way to skala.

Suzanne

If you want to relax then this is the place. There is nothing to do in Katelios which is what is so wonderful about it. We stayed there for every day of our holiday and did not get bored, how could we - the sun shone and the sea was beautiful.

Jo B

Reply for Leonie - Local beach isn't very nice really compared to rest of island. It doesn't really have sand and doesn't look very appealing although I know lots of people went snorkeling there. If you have a car then you will be able to drive around and find a nice beach (as there are plenty of them) if not the next beach along from Katelios (the loggerhead turtle beach) is meant to be really nice. You can access it by following a trail of blue ribbon (although it has mostly disappeared so just little bits of it) over some rocks. Think it is meant to take about half and hour but unsure. Not for the elderly or you children though as it is quite tricky. I never made it across because of my shoes so where sensible foot wear. Failing that maybe you could get a bus to Skala. That beach is supposed to be really nice too. Hope this helps you.

Mark L

We liked it at day but at night the room went like a sawner you wake up every hour soaked in sweat day time is good because the beach is so clear when your far out you can still see to the bottom of the seabed and all the rare fish like stingrays and octopuss about 15 inches long, most of them swim along side you. try the giros and souvlaki pita they're cheap'n'nice they cost around 1.20euro

Leonie

Me and my partener are going to Kefalonia in a couple of weeks. When booking the holiday, i was offered Katelios as the quietest resort for us to chill out. After reading reveiws of the beaches, and seeing the odd picy,im a little worried its really awful. Can anyone shed any light?? Or make alternate suggestions of beaches close by to visit??

Also...staying at the mare monte appartments, any comments on this accommodation would be really appreciated!!

Chris L

Mare Monte room no.4 has a broken toilet seat thanks to me ! Gerry the manager and his wife are very nice. The rooms are very basic and one week there is enough for anyone. No air conditioning but fans are on offer. The kitchen area is compact, the fridge is not that good. Mosquitoes are rife.No problem using the pool in the other hotel just over the road. This is a developing area with new buildings sprouting up.The mini market is 15mins walk away with restaurants a further 5 mins. The Greeks are very nice people.Would we go back to Katelios again ? NO!If we were to go back it would be to Argostoli,Fiskardo,Lassi or Sami.

Jo B

This is a reply for Lori:

Although I didn't drive, I was is in a car with my friends. The roads take a little getting used to as they are not very well developed in some areas so careful driving is required. If you get a map of the island then you should see three different coloured roads on it. Red - a well developed road (well meant to be!), I think yellow or orange - a not developed road (quite scary) and white (I think!) - don't even bother - if you experience the other colour roads you will not want to go on these. The roads around Katelios have just been resurfaced so are really nice and have no pot holes. The rest of the island is a bit rough though so do be causious. Watch out for the crazy Greeks as well! You will be fine with just a car, that's all we had and we saw nearly all of the island. Hope you have a nice holiday Kefalonia is a beautiful island.

Lori

How are the roads on the island I have been told to get a jeep but had a car already booked!

Laura H

katelios was peaceful, although it was not one of the islands best beaches. we stayed in the Efrosini Studios and will NEVER stay there again. our kitchen was overrun with flying ants, the cooking facilities were pathetic, our bedding and towels were not changed once and our bins were only emptied twice. thank god we had a car and could get out and about around the island, and i am so glad we could afford to eat out because we could not eat in the apartment. have been to kefalonia before and will always go back, but never to Efrosini again!

I am going to Katelios again on 14th August this year and staying in the albouro apartments. Last year I stayed in the same apartments and I found the Albouro apartments very clean and attractive and the view of the beach (only 60 metres or so away) was awsome. Also the Eliniko restaurant is only down the path from the Albouro and is one of the best on the island!

We stopped at the Hercules Studios for 2 weeks commencing 8th July 03. The (rear facing) studio was awful. After compaining we were moved to a front facing studio for the second week which was far better although there was some noise from the Hercules bar directly opposite. Would NOT stop at the Hercules again.

This is in response to Zoe Irvine.

I've just returned from Katelios and I also stayed at Katelios Studios for 2 weeks. My wife and I found Katelios Studios to be very adequate and clean. Aris and his family are always willing to help with any problems, should any arise.

There's still no air conditioning, but Aris does hire out fans. Not cheaply mind you :) Also, Aris will save your legs and sell you bottled water, to save you from carrying heavy water from down the road in the heat. However, he charges about twice as much.

We certainly enjoyed out stay at Katelios Studios, although we didn't use the pool. We preferred to go to the beach and swim in the sea. It not a noisy place to stay, but it's also not as quiet as Anastasia Studios just up the road.

Katelios is still my favourite Greek place to stay, for a relaxing holiday. Make sure you take your mosquito wipes and sprays though.

We're going to be staying at Doumas from 19th for a week - Nell, what was it like there? It'll be our first trip to Kefalonia so I hope we made a good choice!

Thanks for info on Medusa we are going there in late Aug and I like Vicki was anxious about the noise after a bad experience in Sidari!!
Sounds like a quiet place how near the beach is it? Are there buses to other parts as we only usually get a car for part of our holiday.
Thanks Lori
