Exchange Rates in Kefalonia

Drew K

After several visits have worked out we get a better rate than in England. The car hire offices use the actual exchange rate not the deflated tourist rate offerd in England's travel agencies and Post Office. We got more euros to the pound even after the standard 2% commission.

Used Martin at CBR/ Olympic offices in May and like others have used the Ford/Kosmar office before

One other big advantage is the help and advice you get about the Island whilst changing money - Free tourist information ! !

There is no cash machine here and no bank which is a pain, but most car rental places in the resort offering about 2% comission, not bad.  We mostly used Ford car rental for money exchange.

I have never been to Kefalonia before,we are staying in Lourdas in July 2005,can anyone give any info on money exchange facilities? Is it best to bring travellers cheques or cash. Are there many places to change our money> Thanks

Lourdas doesn’t have a cash machine, which was a bit troublesome; luckily we’d hired a car so we were able to get more money out in Argostoli when the traveller’s cheques ran out. There is evidently a branch of a bank in a hotel somewhere, but they charge quite a lot of commission. I ended up changing a bit of money in the “Ford” Pefanis rent a car place that houses the Kosmar office. I was quite impressed by their rate, so much so that if I had needed to change anything else, I would have gone back there to do it.
